Trump may pardon Jack Johnson

He needs easy points, he should do it.

And blanket pardons for convictions under any other explicitly racist laws would be a nice ceremonial gesture too.

That’s weird, Reddit said trump was racist...

He is? I'll vote for him now!

He'll do it to impress his buddy Sly Stallone.

True. Obama didn't seem to be a big boxing fan, to my knowledge anyway. Cool if Trump does pardon him though!

Attempts to secure a pardon to clear Johnson's name have been described as a long shot. For one, because the Justice Department investigations on pardon requests are lengthy and complex, they are typically limited to people who are alive.

It’s not the first time that a movement toward that pardon has lost steam.

But Stallone asked Trump.

I suspect Obama didn't do it for the same reason Presidents before him didn't. I mean it would have made a lot of sense in that his mother was white and his father black, but also I can see an argument for not doing so - Johnson isn't impacted by it anymore - he's long dead, it's an historic stain on America and you can't just pardon it away as some symbolic gesture.

Do it or don't do it - it doesn't matter. Reeks of pandering, but I'm sure others will claim "See he's not racist he pardoned Jack Johnson who was convicted for crossing state line with a white woman 70 years ago".

How about he pardon living black men who are being punished by current racially biased laws.

This would not be proof that he isn't.

It came up during Obama's term, but the response was that he didn't want to tie up pardon investigators on a dead person when there were more urgent cases. Of course, as president he could have just done it with no research, but most presidents don't roll that way.

huh, I'd swear he was already pardoned.

I honestly thought Obama had done it. I remember it coming up a couple years back. Apparently, they (Reid and McCain) asked him to pardon Johnson back in 2016 on the 70th anniversary of Johnson's death, but he refused.

From the original link:
"A Trump pardon of Johnson would come after Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) pushed then-President Barack Obama to pardon Johnson in 2016 on the 70th anniversary of his death."

Needs to pardon Joe Son. He was framed. By whitey.

Step one - Pardon Jack Johnson based on the advise of Sylvester Stallone.

Step two - Avoid a future where humans are subservient to machines by destroying all computers after a Skype session with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

he should pardon both of them.

I mean, why not? Right?

Slam dunk, Trump. Do it yesterday. Literally nothing bad can come from this. The fuck you waiting for?
