This is getting ridiculous. We have a spending problem. One of the planks of the Republican party used to be the deficit, but I guess it no longer matters. So after 4 years, Trump is averaging, adding more than a trillion a year to the deficit. We need to audit the Fed, because they are either wasting money or stealing it. The economy is great, which means more people are making more money, so tax revenue should be up. How in the hell are we a trillion in the hole, every year for the last 4 years? This is going to be a major problem, unless we can get some people in DC who care about the deficit. There are people on both sides who have been there the entire time that have put us 23 trillion in the hole. Mitch McConnell, Pelosi, et al have been there for the entire 23 trillion. Are there any fiscal conservatives left in America or have they gone the way of the Dodo bird? Keep playing the left/right game when both sides are responsible for the eventual bankruptcy of this country. How come I never see the media talking about the deficit anymore?

But he said he would cut the debt in his first term!

    "
Once he’s done delivering hundreds of billions in tax breaks to the idle rich, Donald Trump hopes to take food and medical care away from the working poor.

Earlier this year, the third item on the president’s legislative agenda appeared to be an overhaul of America’s infrastructure. But congressional Republicans never had much appetite for investing in new public goods (except, of course, for those that can be used to kill people overseas). And now that they’ve added $1.5 trillion to the deficit for their potential regressive tax cuts, rebuilding the nation’s bridges is a total nonstarter on Capitol Hill."

    "
This is fine with the president. Trump outsourced his legislative agenda to the GOP leadership on day one. And there’s no sign that he has the energy or ambition to take back the reins now. Paul Ryan hopes to use his party’s starvation of “the beast” as an excuse for starving low-income children — and Trump is happy to oblige. As The Wall Street Journal reports:

As Republicans near the finish line on a long-sought tax overhaul, President Donald Trump has committed them to taking up a welfare-revamp fight next … The president didn’t offer specifics about which of the dozens of welfare programs he was seeking to change, or how. But congressional Republicans who have been pushing him for months to pursue the issue have proposed layering tougher work requirements on beneficiaries of programs such as food stamps, which are used by around 43 million Americans, and the cash benefit known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, which is received by around 3.5 million people.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is signaling that it will allow Republican-led states to begin requiring drug tests for all food-stamps recipients, and imposing work requirements on Medicaid applicants. Earlier this week, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker announced a plan to drug-test all able-bodied, low-income people seeking nutritional assistance from the state’s FoodShare program."

Well, wait until a Democrat is in office again. Then it'll be a matter of existential importance.

Which is why we should not be running trillion dollar deficits. Do you even economics, Bro?
When your economy is doing well you pay off your fucking debts, not increase it. So when the next recession hits, because it will, because it always does, we are proper fucked.
Plus Deficit Donny said he would balance the budget, now he is running the government like one of his casinos.
We have two choices, one is have interest payments be the highest budget expenditure after the military and cut fucking everything, which would turn the US into Mad Max or inflate our way out of it.
    Neither option is good.
Also I love these Nouveau Conservatives, acting like deficits don't matter anymore. The hypocrisy is fucking delicious.

The Republican Party is committed to reducing the deficit and strong family values. Now can we add a line to the budget to set aside funds for paying off hookers and pornstars?

    It’s not that simple.

Large deficits have tracked parallel to booming economies for decades.

Furthermore, many of the warning signs/problems just aren’t happening (rising interest rates, crowding out, etc).

And our deficit is exactly where it was projected to be, except we created 12 trillion in wealth.

Also, “we’re proper fucked”. See, you believe the government will always come to the rescue, without flaw. I seem to remembered a large bailout which wasted TONS of money, and led to a lackluster recovery.

The market, AKA Gambling? If you said that 12 trillion was added to peoples saving accounts that would be something to talk about. All it takes is a bubble to pop and there goes the 12 trillion.

We could be 4 years into the building of a 21st century infrastructure that could be the inspiration for the rest of the world

Instead we’ve given those trillions to the private industry of wealthy elites where their wealth has no borders or obligation to add to society.

I’ll take the welfare queens over the corporate socialists every. day. of. the. week. three. sixty. five.

Gotta break some eggs to make an omelette, he will square things away during his next term..The countries economy has been in a steep nosedive for years, you can’t just pull up, you have to ease up.

Top 5 highest deficits were under republican presidents, the other was Obama. When exactly did republicans actually care about the deficit?
