Trump has name recognition in mainstream America(even pop culture), is charismatic, is wealthy, can play the outsider card, and talks about the issues the way average, uniformed, citizens do, and because of all that has virtual impunity in regards to saying stupid shit. He was destined to make a deep run for POTUS.

Here is the problem with this. People from Bill Maher, and all across the spectrum, say Trump is legitimately smart.

Trump is exposing the difference between media persona, and who people actually are, and these two things are world's apart. You have no idea who any of these people actually are, because the media's coverage on everyone is ridiculously superficial.

this time he came out about how mexican rapists are pouring over the border like a tidal wave, and everyone went "holy fuck what did he just say." but then a woman in SF was killed by a multiple time deported felon, and everyone lost their fucking minds. then he comes out about muslims, and suddenly san bernadino happened.

it's like this man made an actual deal w/ the fucking devil. next he's gonna say all women are evil cunts, and then a troupe of women serial killers will emerge with dead babies hanging around their necks and kidnapping christians and executing them on youtube.

I feel like if Congress wasn't completely gridlocked by the Republicans because Obama got elected the establishment candidates might be doing better. More and more people realize the candidates don't have their best interest in mind/are serial liars and are finally willing to vote in someone else.

For years people have had to quietly accept diversity, illegal immigration, Muslim tip-toeing, self-censure of speech. Trump is the natural backlash of that. I actually don't think it's an unreasonable reaction. If I were to become a minority group inside my own country, I would consider my culture at risk. The piece of land remains but if your culture dies, it's game over. The problem with Trump is that he has taken the idea to its' unnecessarily dumb, xenophobic extreme. His supporters aren't too bright, I don't think they really know why they support him other a gut instinct.

The two party system is perfect for preventing people like Trump from getting in. What gives Trump a better chance of winning, him vs a Democrat or him vs bernie, Rubio, and Clinton. Obviously breaking up the opposition is working well in the GOP, why do we think it wouldn't work well in a general election.

I think his main appeal in addition to being anti establishment is that he's anti self censorship and anti identity politics. there's a lot of moderates out there sick of those last two and Trump taps into that.
