Social Trump appointed FEMA chief fired 1 day after assuming position, because he didn't want to get rid of FEMA

Do you know what's even worse? FEMA not being there at all, which is what this administration wants.
Ok. Whether that's true or not has nothing to do with your assertion that FEMA was helping everyone equally.

Outside of California with it's wildfires, isn't mainly red states that deal with natural disasters that require FEMA response on a regular basis?

Its really sad these maga losers fell for it again. Trump came to western NC and vilified Biden for the federal hurricane response. Then when Trump took control he denied additional funds for western NC communities that were destroyed by the hurricane. Promises made ...

Getting rid of consumer protection agency, getting rid of environmental protections, getting rid of FEMA, getting rid of USAID. Is the government pro-people or...... Like geez. Not everything is a business transaction. A program costs money to benefit citizens? Boo hoo. Aid and quality of life assistance isn't supposed to be a freaking return on investment. Is there anything that this administration is going to BUILD other than the military budget? So far they are obsessed with terminating everything.

I have confidence that the maga dipshits will figure it out, eventually. I’m a rascal of an optimist, though.

I have years of disaster relief experience and I can rightfully say that FEMA would be nothing if not for corruption. They're storm response goes like this:

1. Fumble-fuck around and take about 5 days to respond
2. Set up response camps and give away bottled water
3. Restrict access to badly effected areas to MegaCorp. mitigation outfits, primarily Serv-pro. Property owners or their preferred contractors aren't allowed in.
4. Have townhall style meetings, urging folks to allow their mitigation teams to go ahead and mitigate everything because of "potential" exposure to class 3 water. (presence of ecoli bacteria)
5. Folks that don't participate have to wait until the area is opened by FEMA.
6. Preferred contractor brings in legions of rent-a-drunk labor ($75.00 per hr, per drunk), shipping containers full of safety equipment ($45.00 per neon vest, $2.00 per particle mask), fans ($75.00 per day, ea), air dryers ($250.00 per day), and fancy. aquamarine duct tape ($30.00 per roll).
7. Mitigation bill is generally 45% or more of total insurance policy limits, leaving the policy holder woefully short of rebuild costs.
8. Once the preferred contractor is firmly established and most residents have shown up to a meeting, the area is re-opened.

Insurance Company ties to mega-mitigators are extremely well cloaked through shell corporations.. Political donations, as best they can.

Holy shit. I appreciate your perspective. It seems like the aim would be to take disaster relief back to the state level for efficiency reasons. Any insight on how that would work?

Cameron Hamilton was the FEMA chief for 1 day.
He was appointed by Pres. Trump
Trump and his admin want to get rid of FEMA
Hamilton thinks FEMA provides valuable service to the American people.
So Hamilton was fired by Kristi Noem (FEMA comes under the DHS)

Why would you want to get rid of FEMA? They provide a lot of help for Americans affected by natural and man-made disasters.
The fool probably thought he was going to help Americans in times of disaster.

"sucker and loser"

Tornado's ripped through northern Arkansas in 2024, and Biden declares it a disaster.

President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Arkansas

Less than a year later, tornado's hit Arkansas again, and Trump tells them to get fucked.
Arkansas governor makes second request for federal disaster aid

The list was just an overview of how bad FEMA actually is. The comprehensive narrative would be a novel.

The problem with giving it back to the states is that they are usually as corrupt, if not more corrupt, than the feds.
DeSantis has proven effective and Mississippi (actual landfall) did pretty good following Katrina. Louisiana, not so much.

I suppose that having states head it up eliminates some corruption because on top of how corrupt FEMA is, the Feds use disaster funding to coerce/extort states into playing along with other bullshit, just like the DOE.

Without Fed control, it could be difficult to get states to pony up for shit that happens in other states. (Think U.N)

My opinion is that FEMA should be reduced to only handling forecasting budgets and distribution of funds, strictly mandated for disaster relief only, but not have any operational function other than monitoring and inspection. Leave response to the states.

The biggest game changer would be getting the feds out of the insurance business and restore a competitive market. State lines be damned.
It's a complicated game...

It is.

POTUS doesn't have the authority to do this, getting rid of an agency like this should be done by the legislative branch.

POTUS has usurped congress.
FEMA was created via executive order by Hymie Carter, then later billed in to law by congress. What's the problem with dissolving it the same way?
