Law Trump administration moves to ban flavored e-cigarettes

I'm pro-not banning shit.

same. I thought this was America. Seems more like North Korea

also seems like they're trying to protect Big Tobacco and as always, this administration doesn't understand what's really going on and they're banning the wrong thing unrelated to the recent deaths.

I don't want to live in a Nanny State.

You are spreading a serious amount of bullshit, or in a world you might understand (FAKE NEWS).

First off, your popcorn lung thing is laughable bullshit ( you probably get all your news on Facebook). Not one single person in the history of vaping has got popcorn lung, there is more diacetyl in cigarettes than in flavoured vape juice, also diacetyl has not been used in vape juice flavouring for years now....its just more bullshit. The only people that have ever got popcorn lung worked in a factory that made microwave popcorn.

NONE, ZERO, NADA, has one person ever had a problem vaping e-juice be it flavoured or not. The cases of these problems were counterfeit THC tanks/pods on the black market which were filled with a thickner ( Vitamin E acetate ) which can be fatal to vape. Some black market people are even putting in vitamins, viagra, etc in juice. This has NOTHING to do with regular e-juice, its just idiots. The UK is putting vape shops in hospitals FFS, and Doctors there suggest them as a smoking cessation.

People have been vaping for 10+ years, suddenly in one month everyone is getting sick or dying? Seriously, use your head a little.
Trump is being lobbied by big tobacco to do what he is proposing...its insanity.

Read this article, its pretty accurate.
Dispersing the clouds of the vape panic myth
Illicit THC products are the problem

He's 100% right.

Off the top of my head:

Cigs have 1000+ chemicals in them when they are burned. Somewhere near half are carcinogens.

Nicotine is the most addictive substance known to man, more than cocaine.

Cigs have many more addictive chemicals than just nicotine. I forget the # but quitting cigs via conventional non vaping means is a lot harder than to stop vaping.

Vape juice typically has 4-5 chemicals, none of which are carcinogenic.

I believe that there is a very small amount of cancer causing agents due to the burning of cotton in the atomizers., but this has neither been confirmed or denied.

The bottom line I guess is that cigs are far more dangerous. Vaping isn't 100% safe either though. Abstinence is the only 100% "safe" alternative.
HOWEVER: vaping was never intended to be used as a weight loss supplement, which is why a lot of teenage girls vape salt nics. Salt nics have a very high level of nicotine and curb ones appetite, for those unfamiliar.
Vaping also wasn't intended to be a fad amongst kids.

Vaping was created as an alternative to cigs and a great way to quit them. I'll spare the life story bullshit but I smoked for a long time, tried everything under the sun to stop and wasn't successful until vaping became available.

I'm just one of millions but the fact is it worked. If used properly vaping saves lives.

Proper regulation could solve that.

Instead of a ban
The issue is black market THC product.

Obvious answer, legalize weed. How on earth are people buying THC and getting it smuggled into the US?! It’s already illegal, ban it again

The fact that kids think these are safe and taste good is why they are banning the flavors. They aren't banning vaping all together, just the flavors.

After vaping-related illness, teen now has lungs like 'a 70-year-old's'
https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/11/health/vaping-lung-illness-illinois-teen-profile/index.html

"The US Food and Drug Administration announced on Wednesday that more than a quarter of high school students this year have reported using e-cigarettes and the "overwhelming majority" reference using popular fruit and menthol or mint flavors, according to preliminary data from the National Youth Tobacco Survey."

"The tremendous progress we've made in reducing youth tobacco use in the US is jeopardized by this onslaught of e-cigarette use. Nobody wants to see children becoming addicted to nicotine, and we will continue to use the full scope of our regulatory authority thoughtfully and thoroughly to tackle this mounting public health crisis."

"Separate surveys also suggest that most teens think e-cigarettes are safe.
Adam certainly thought vaping was safe when he started using e-cigarettes, he said. One of his favorite flavors was mango."

"We're very early in the stages of finding out what problems may come up from vaping," he said. "We're finding these acute, severe illnesses now, but there really isn't enough vaping history to say what's going to happen 10, 20, 30 years down the road."
Stop spreading your bullshit you fucking moron. Whats your agenda with the lying?

Is that so? I’ve only smoked a blunt with tobacco like once or twice, I’m a non-smoker and the shit made me sick and nervous.

Regularly smoking cannabis and tobacco is TERRIBLE for you. When cannabis flower has no additives, it irritates the lungs and has tar, but this tar is excised by the liver, where tobacco has additives that bond with the water laden tissues in the lungs, making it glue itself into the lung. Cannabis smoke forms very very strong bonds when combined with additives.

It's like throwing gas onto a tire fire. I have a friend who vapes nicotine and smokes pot a lot (works in a retail pot shop). He doesn't think it's doing much to him, but then again, he's an idiot who makes as much as a teacher, yet has to ration his food for the next 10 days because he blew 1000 bucks on replica lightsabers. Ugh.

Just curious what you mean here. At first you discuss the combination of THC and tar which seems pretty straight forward, then you switch to nicotine....to your knowledge does THC bond with nicotine as well? And if so what effects does it have?

Read a great article about how THC can remove some of the brains protein build up and could potentially lower the risk of alzheimers etc. by bonding with the proteins in a similar manner as you describe THC + tar, and the body flushes it out. I'll post a link if I can find it.

I have no clue on vaped nicotine. I do not at all trust the manufacturers of these products to not load them with additives and other crap. Even just compounding the smoke and tar from cannabis with more smoke is in itself harmful.

Then there are the effects on the hippocampus. Cannabis shrinks this area of the brain, which is related to memory, recall and implicit memory, but is greatly increased when tobacco, or even nicotine is introduced.

I see cannabis use as a trade off, as are most things in life, but I find combining the two substances to compound the risks to levels I would not want to mess with. I have an awesome memory, even though I've smoked pot most days for probably the last decade, but I will admit, it has affected my memory somewhat.

An aside. Whenever I abstain for a few weeks, my ability to dream comes back, and my first crazy post pot dream has always, ALWAYS been that I'm going to community college with a bunch of porn stars. Weird.

Interesting. This suggests that the combination is all that matters, not the delivery method ie smoking, vaping, patches, whatever.

Haha....do you wake up with a bad case of sweats? Whenever I lay off I have fucking nightmares.
Being on campus with porn stars sounds like a pretty cool dream actually <Lmaoo>

Nightmares and panic attacks were the reason I started smoking weed. I would have nightmares, then panic all day in an endless cycle, and the meds weren't helping. It got me off that crap, and got rid of a ton of anxiety and got rid of the nightmares altogether. Weird thing is, when I abstain I don't get nightmares anymore, just the weird dreams.

The weird part of the dream is the odd manner in which the porn stars are nice to me in the dream. When I wake up I'm like "Shit, am I gay in this dream?!?!" lol

Good. As most of us know weed is way better than the synthetic death our doctors deal out like so much candy. Add in the painkilling element....and I guess it becomes a legalize weed thread. Sucks that these bad carts are going around, makes it bad on everything.

Trust me, even when it comes to legal cartridges for recreational weed, it's TRAAAAAAASH. The oil cartridges are usually the shittiest of shitty trim and sweeping distilled down. People don't typically know how much processors and retailers fuck them. Joints, for example, all across Washington, are typically made with trim, and not the premium bud. Hence, they suck balls typically. That Willie Nelson shit, his private reserve, is garbage.

To be fair, Altria owns a significant stake in JUUL now, RJ Reynolds owns Vuze, etc. All the big tobacco players are in vaping now. The thing is though that vaping doesn’t cover the massive profits these companies consistently post year after year, that’s 99.9% from traditional cigs, which currently still has much higher margins than vaping. So yes, switching nicotine users back to cigs would most definitely benefit tobacco companies.

From what I’ve heard many people are just sticking with their pre-legalization dealer.

Sad that you can trust a criminal more than a legal business

I’ve seen the data (no links because it’s research that sits behind a massive paywall) and nicorette and all that other shit is basically a giant rip off because only a tiny percentage of people actually manage to quit using gum or patches or whatever else. Vaping on the other hand has a proven track record of getting people off tobacco, probably because it preserves the mechanics of the habit, minus the combustion obviously. As a government, if you’re going to claim you’re trying to save lives and then ban - or severely restrict - vaping, you’re a hypocrite.
