U.S.-China tensions rise as Trump administration moves to cut Huawei off from global chip suppliers

The Trump administration moved to block shipments of semiconductors to Huawei Technologies from global chipmakers

The U.S. Commerce Department said it was amending an export rule to “strategically target Huawei’s acquisition of semiconductors that are the direct product of certain U.S. software and technology.”

This is US origin software and technology, even though the hardware and software is manufactured in Taiwan and elsewhere.

I am very happy with this news. Would love for the US to cauterize that tentacle of the CCP.

Huawei development team mails an HKSP (Huawei Kernel Self Protection) Linux patch with a backdoor to Linux Foundation, Huawei denies involvement

- So Huawei claims it had nothing to do with one of their senior engineers mailing Linux a patch with a backdoor.

A perfect recipe for introducing backdoors in gadgets. Last week Huawei development team submitted a patch to the Linux Foundation with a ‘trivial vulnerability.’ When the vulnerability was discovered, Huawei, as always, denied its involvement in the patch and said that its employees may be responsible.

Grsecurity stated that it found that HKSP repository owner was a Level 20 Principal Security employee in Huawei. Level 20 is the highest technical level within Huawei and it is not possible for such a high ranking official to publish a code without the knowledge of the parent organization

I cannot understand why there is still any debate over whether we should let Huawei have a role in building our 5G networks. So clearly, fucking obviously, not.

Those silly Brits are still planning on letting Huawei build their 5g networks.

Republicans move to block 48 US fighter jets being deployed to Britain over Huawei concerns

Amendment would bar F-35 deployment to countries where Huawei builds 5G network

Republican senators are attempting to block by law the deployment of 48 next generation US fighter jets to Britain because of Huawei's involvement in the UK's 5G network, The Telegraph can reveal.

hua & wei hasn't this been done sooner?

From article:

The United States is trying to convince allies to exclude Huawei gear from next-generation 5G networks on grounds its equipment could be used by China for spying. Huawei has repeatedly denied the claim.

The Chinese giving their word that they won't do something bad counts as much for believing they won't do something bad as if they'd said nothing at all.

Wouldn't that hurt the US strategically though or are there other bases nearby?

This is why Trump has been the worst president in this scenario. China trade policy needed to be dealt with; but a reality TV president has done insurmountable damage to our position. Trump continues to bungle international trade policy because he is an idiot.

It's silly. It's like asking wwii Japan to liberate your country from European colonial powers. Yeah you're liberated from them, but it's a much worse choice.

I agree and disagree. He definitely is not a coalition builder. But he is a doer. I doubt Hillary would have said anything, much less have done anything.

The Brits are not the only ones. IIRC Sweden are letting them bid too.
And some Swedish networks seems to have Huawei installed.
Dumb fucks.

Not a coalition builder? That is an understatement. The guy can can't keep Americans from hating each other. The guy has torn down all coalitions and painted us into a corner. I hate to say it and I wish I was wrong but Hilary would have been much better for the country.

I am not going to like my semiconductor etf come Monday.

He can’t even keep together a 4 person task force.
