True or False: Silva vs GSP would have happened during their concurrent title reigns if...

GSP was at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi and was supposed to call out Silva after his fight with Maia, but after Silva's clowning around that entire fight, supposedly Dana was pissed and that got the kibosh. To me, that suggests GSP was open to the superfight when both were in their primes.

Gsp knew anderson was juicing. It was common knowledge among fighters. Why give a ped user that shot.

Anderson wanted it. The UFC wanted it. If GSP wanted it, it would obviously have happened.

I think GSP made the right decision. Anderson was no normal fighter. He was almost not human. GSP could beat almost anyone, And even most mws then and today, but obviously not the best mw in mma history.

Nope. Those were different times. If you kill a golden goose, it can't lay any more eggs. Not until Conor came along could the UFC continue to successfully pimp out its fighters after a loss/losses. The stock for the winner of GSP and AS would have skyrocketed while the loser's plummeted.

Funny how GSP gets the blame for the fight not happening while Silva gets a pass for wanting to fight a smaller guy.

Silva also never pushed to fight Jones.

Silva fought at 170 and then moved up to 185 to be a dominant champ. GSP never fought at 155. GSP also had no problem fight BJ Penn, twice.

Lol the whole “well y Andy no fight Bones” diversion is the biggest red herring fallacy in MMA history.

And acting as though the Abu Dhabi affair permanently derailed the fight for time immemorial is also a p4p exaggeration.

You guys wanna know why Dana hates GSP? His dodging of this superfight is part of the reason.

Truth, lol at the nuthuggers on damage control.

I mean, probably. He pushed hard for the Nick Diaz fight as well even though Nick "lost" to Condit.

But you can't underestimate Dana's vindictiveness against both GSP and Anderson.

It's a smart thing George stayed away from Matrix Silva. Hardly would have been a chance for him to have won that fight honestly! GSP and Aldo mentioned going through a natural change of mindset while going through a long title reign! George is near the P4P Goat in my list... but when he stopped being "Rush" weighs a little on me to be honest! Still can't understand these GSP Haters however! He embodied the essence of MMA, and legitimized the sport in the eyes of many!

Why vindictiveness against Anderson besides a brief embarrassment at Abu Dhabi?

Cote and Leites fights before that.

Perhaps, but frustrating performances and careeer decisions with Silva were clearly the exception and not the norm.

It is a little strange to lump him in with GSP in a discussion regarding Dana’s vindictiveness towards fighters.

Any doubt about Anderson being a company man should have been erased after he agreed to take on DC on two day’s notice.

Silva vs GSP would have happened during their concurrent titles reigns if Georges would have pushed hard for the Silva fight...The same way he pushed hard for the Bisping fight years later.

True or False?
why didn't Jones challenge Cain or Stipe? Why is he STILL ducking HW when its current champ is someone he beat twice already?

It's always hilarious how Silva fans have selective memories and revisionist history.

April 10th, 2010, UFC 112...Abu Dhabi

Weeks prior to this event there was buzzing talk in the MMA world as it was rumored that GSP was going to take the fight with Silva.

This site, mma news sites, everyone was talking about it. After starching Thiago Alves at UFC100 and then completely toying with Hardy at UFC111 in his comeback fight from his injury in the Alves battle...It was said he had cleared out welterweight and was finally going up.

Flashforward to the ufc112 event...GSP was flown in and was shown or talked about every 2 minutes on that card. All Joe and Goldie could talk about was that the UFC brought GSP front row center for this event.

Why? Because after Silva was supposed to "embarrass" Maia and KO him in 30 seconds. They were to bring Georges in for the inevitable staredown and fight announcement.

What occured was a massive embarrassment of a fight. To the point where Dana and the Fertitta bros refused to give Silva the money fight. Georges was the A-side here...Silva only became a name after Chael's mouth made him popular.

Now, did Silva shit the bed on purpose to lose the fight? Was it performance anxiety at the fact that his decisive victory would land him the bigger fight?

Who knows.

In the end, Silva screwed Silva out of that fight...Not Georges.

Oh please, he was on a downward slide and this was his chance to MAYBE get lucky and win the LHW belt.

You acting like he did it for the company and not his own gain is laughable.

Why would silva fight Jones when they were from two different eras?
That's not true, were you even around back then? People were asking Anderson to fight Shogun since he kept moving up to beat gatekeepers like Irvin and Forrest who had been a champion there. Then Jones beat him and people were calling for Jones. Before Sonnen, there were years where it felt like Anderson had cleaned the division and everyone were asking him to move up.

Same for GSP. And GSP wanted none with Silva either.

Never forget that Anderson Silva is so afraid of takedowns that Chael Sonnen outstruck him heavily in the first fight to the point of knocking him down

GSP would have mauled him

And what exactly did he have to gain fighting 3 LHW’s while he was the dominant champion at MW?

No matter how much you try to underplay these career moves, Anderson’s willingness to think and move outside the box always shine through.

It was the complete antithesis to GSP’s conservative and calculated approach; which incidentally infuriated Dana to no end.
