True or False - Conor has gotten further with less ground game than anyone in UFC (or MMA) history?

Relative to the competition in his era, of course.

Don't like his recent punk tactics/breakdown since getting smacked by Diaz, but gotta give him credit for getting this far, getting the FW title in the modern era of MMA with such a large glaring obvious imbalance in his game.

Discuss.

Its going to be exposed even worse than the Diaz or Mendes fights

See late PRIDE era MMA.
CroCop, Gomi, Kid Yamamoto, or even Manhoef.
Hell, Manhoef was one more leg kick away from beating Lawler, who is currently the UFC WW Champion.

I said relative to their era, and what those guys have accomplished (with the exception of CroCop, who won the Pride absolute GP, trained with a much better grappler in Werdum than Conor ever has) is arguably not as big as winning an undisputed UFC title. And Kid was a fantastic wrestler, are you kidding me?

Manhoef's MMA accomplishments pale in comparison to beating Aldo to FW belt.

Other than Mendez...he mainly faced strikers...

thats irrelevant when the discusssion is on accomplishments, in Conor's case wining the undisputed FW title KOing Aldo in 13 sec. He's been a punk since then, but that was impressive, I admit.

Was seeing if you'd let Kid slide. Realized "The Fireball Kid" <> Kid Yamamoto. I get confused.
Pride Absolute GP was the actual p4p ranking at the time.
Crocop legit beat everyone he faced in the tourney and destroyed Wanderlei in convincing fashion.
Also, given how much worse at grappling Manhoef obviously was, how is that not at least comparable? The guy lost nearly every fight he was taken down in.

Kid Yamamoto and Cro Cop? WTF are you talking about?

It is comparable, the accomplishment. My argument there is that he (CroCop) was a better grappler relative to his competition at the time than Conor compared to his. His grappling coach was Werdum, and I believe he was a purple belt at the time under him? Prob more legit than a brown under Kavanaugh.

But it is relevant. Wonderboy faced much more dangerous fighters wit his fighting style. He faced Jake Burger & Hendricks...those are superior wrestlers so was Cote.

yeah but Wonderboy doesnt have the same accomplishments in MMA as Conor

Two components to this equation folks, accomplishments and grappling (or lack thereof) credentials, both relative to competition of their eras, to clarify.

Conor has been protected by the UFC though, given only favorable matchups with mostly mid tier strikers to build him up. False.

All those guys had much better tdd than conor. So their ground game wasn't as big of an issue.

He is without doubt the most one dimensional champion we've seen in mma for a long time, but it's always exciting to see him fight

Just stop the bullshit already. You made a thread with subtle hints to just say Conor went far with minimal ground game. Now that people are responding to your "QUESTION" with legit answers...suddenly it's irrelevant to what you're asking.

Honestly Conors ground isnt that bad. He obviously cant do anything offensive off his back but I think hes worked his sweeps and stands up decently well.

His top game is actually pretty damn good. The way he handled Brandao, dope mounted Siver, and managed to do damage to Diaz in the 1st (Although he almost got knee barred or swept)

False.

Liddell ground game?

MMA. Are we talking touch butt or what? Did I miss something?
But you're right, Kid wasn't lopsided in his skill set (Gomi and Kid get me mixed up). CroCop on the other hand won an Open Weight GP in the org with the best LHW/HW division at the time. Outside of Aldo, Conor got finished by somebody who loses to most of the top 5... kinda sounds like Gonzaga to me...
