I mean, maybe not, but it is weird how defensive he is about his sexuality, how he cannot get an erection for a rather attractive women, and how he likes to look at street-boys more so than street girls.

It doesn't really matter to the story, but I think people are still uncomfortable with the idea of a homosexual male police officer (which happens!).
They are perfectly fine with lesbian officers, which is why I think they should keep Amy Adams as straight.
