I came across this expose of an infamous Redditor Moderator responsible for creating and supplying the subreddit 'Jailbait' with the underage photos of teens 10-15 years old.

Violentacrez was considered a troll par excellence in his community, but seems to have been more ‘real’ about himself than people would think.

On sherdog recently, in the Grappling Forum, a user called EpicBeardMan was eventually banned for his posts on the Lloyd Irvin Team rape case.

After the ban, it was remembered that EpicBeardMan had posted the following on a thread about rolling with women:

Holy --! This is the kind of person that is defending Lloyd Irvin.

I guess what I’m getting at is that maybe there are fewer trolls who troll simply for the sake of trollery than we would like to think. How often do you read something that you think, ‘this must be a joke’ or ‘this can’t be serious’ ?

How often is it that the troll isn’t - in reality- trying to be funny, or push buttons for the buttons sake, or stick it to the PC types…but is truly and sincerely venting malice or hatred?

No one likes a PC-know-it-all that can’t make or take a joke. But how many people do you think you run into on sherdog and elsewhere are sincere in the abusive things they say?

Do you think the relationship of the internet to trollery can or should change? How?

When people get called out for stupidity they say they are trolling.

Trolling is an art form that got transformed into an excuse for being retarded.

Chael Sonnen is a troll. By the book. He gets people to react on things he says even if he doesn't believe a word! And he's not throwing just any line in the water. He knows the fish he wants and he has a bucket full of lure for that fish. That is trolling. Not just saying scandalous things at random in hope of catching a fish.

Just like in sport fishing, it's not just about getting the fish. It's about what fish you are looking for, the lure you will use, the hook you will put on the line and the way you're gonna pull!

Today's troll throw 100 lines, catch one easy fish then tell the internet it was 10 foot long.

I like to bate some posts every now and then for fun. Nothing to bad, but it can be amusing to catch a poor sherpuppy off guard and let them dangle for a bit. But im very catch and release.

Look- There is a difference between telling or making a joke and trolling. But defining it is hard.

Someone made a thread about baby back ribs being really expensive the other day. And I said they should be expensive, because you could get in a lot of trouble for killing and cooking babies. I was not trolling. I was telling a macabre joke.

For me, the big differences between trolling and joke telling are intent and direction. If you are intending to provoke someone, then you are heading towards trolling. And most who are on the forum troll at some level. I include myself in that as well. Very few are completely innocent.

If someone says something you think is stupid and you call them out on it with inflammatory, combative, insulting, or derisive language, you are not a guardian of common sense, you have entered the troll machine. And I do that as much as the next guy. When it truly becomes intolerable though is when you do it for it's own sake.

very impressed with this analogy!

I just assume everyone is trolling always. None of you are even real people.

That said, sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we were all sitting at a real table irl and shouting out our comments instead of typing them anonymously. I wonder how people would change...

I think most would be wary to talk shit about belcher and barnett seeing that they would be at that table

Too many concepts for one word. Media uses it to mean "online bullies". Around here it's more of a "devil's advocate" or "shit stirrer" connotation. Need more words.

Lol. Actually I used to think that was the key to posting in the OT, to convince yourself that you were competing with other avatars to come off as the weirdest. Now I feel like some of those guys know each other irl and I'm even more confused...

I remember when this article came out five months ago.

I know nothing about trolling.
