Bruh, haven't seen anything this grisly since the Florida bath-salt zombies years ago. Who would have thought their brethren would show up in Portland now by way of Georgia. o_O

Elderly man has part of his face chewed off in Gresham MAX platform attack
Police have arrested a 25-year-old suspect and are investigating whether he was on drugs at the time.

GRESHAM, Ore. (KPTV) - A suspect is in custody after a grisly attack on an elderly man on a MAX platform in Gresham early Tuesday morning, according to police.

At about 2:17 a.m., officers responded to the Cleveland Station at 1200 Northeast 8th Street where witnesses reported an attack and a lot of blood.

Officers found the attacker still on top of the victim, a 78-year-old man from Hillsboro, and pulled him off.

According to police, the suspect “had chewed off the victim’s ear and part of his face. The injury was so severe that responders could see the victim’s skull.”

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition is not known.

Police initially booked the suspect under the fake name of “El Baker” because that’s all he would give them. But later, through fingerprints, they discovered his true identity is Koryn Kraemer, 25, who had recently moved to Portland from the state of Georgia.

Authorities are investigating whether drug use may have played a part in Kraemer’s behavior.

Kraemer was booked on accusations of Assault in the Second Degree.

The Multnomah County District Attorney's office said that Koryn Kraemer, 25, told investigators that he'd used alcohol, cannabis and fentanyl prior to the attack.

A gruesome fight at the last stop of a light rail train in Oregon left a 78-year-old man seriously injured, with his ear chewed off and his skull exposed.

The fight happened just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and ended with the arrest of a 25-year-old man who recently moved to Portland from Georgia, authorities said.

Gresham police and Multnomah County deputies were called to the Cleveland Avenue MAX platform after witnesses called in a possible stabbing that caused significant bleeding. When law enforcement arrived, the suspect, later identified through fingerprints as Koryn Kraemer, was still on top of the man and still attacking, officials said.

Detectives determined the man had not been stabbed but did have his ear chewed off “and part of his face.” Emergency responders could see the victim’s skull.

Kraemer — who initially provided the name of “El Baker” — was booked on an assault charge.

Later in the day, Portland police said a man who was fighting on the train with another person near the Lloyd District fled the scene before they could arrive.

Blue line riders were concerned in the hours after the attack

“I feel like they could do a little bit better with their security to make sure things like that don’t happen,” rider Jayden Adach told KTLA sister station KOIN. “They should have patrol at least once an hour. It’s very rare to see that.”

“A few more transit police security like that, patrolling around and telling people to behave,” rider Richard Landers said. “That’s all they have to do is behave.”

After a child was pushed off a platform, local officials were asked what, specifically, they are doing to make platforms more safe.

“It’s upsetting to learn that someone was hurt by another person at the Cleveland Ave MAX Station early this morning,” a representative for TriMet, the state’s mass transit authority, said in a statement. “What happens in the community will at times happen on or near the transit system.”

Isn’t that the same platform a toddler was recently pushed into the tracks?

have read that activists in Portland have tried to get police barred from patrolling MAX stations there. Not sure what the official policy is tho

It's always sad to see elderly people having to take the subway like that. His children should buy him a car or help him move somewhere safer if he can't drive, but I realize that not all elderly people have kids or kids that are able to help.

Unless there’s an angle like he was out on bail, this seems like one of those things where the man was simply unlucky to be near some drugged out psycho. Doesn’t matter what system you have in place when someone without a lengthy criminal past decides to snap.

Says Gresham, OR. I don’t know if that’s a suburb of Portland, but I doubt it’s the same platform or system.

32 and she looks like that. She makes the case for euthanasia in the US.

I just checked and it is a suburb and while not same platform, seems to be apart of the same system. Infact The one was in Gresham, the other was in at a stop that is not only apart of the same overall greater portland metro, but is just a stop or two away

As per this image from the toddler link, it is a connector station/gateway to connect to the blue line that goes to Gresham. Basically connecting stops lol

Edit: and to counter your other point, now that we now they are in proxiity, it does seems like a systemic problem of needing at least more security at the stations, among other things, with two potentially fatal attacks within a week of each other. Just IMO anyways

@Yehudim

I just checked even further and I was correct in that they are proximal stations. The blue line goes from Gateway (where the toddler was pushed) and the very next stop is where this other attacked happened.

Unlucky?

Or maybe legalizing hardcore drugs wasn't such a great idea after all
