A trans woman who raped two women before she changed gender will not serve her sentence in a female jail, Scotland's first minister has said.

Isla Bryson was remanded to Cornton Vale women's prison after being convicted of carrying out the rapes when she was a man called Adam Graham.

Bryson decided to transition from a man to a woman while awaiting trial.

Nicola Sturgeon has now said Bryson will be removed from the prison soon and will not serve her sentence there.

She was expected to be moved to a male wing of a male prison on Thursday afternoon.

Common sense and logic prevailed only after a massive backlash against the decision. Before Sturgeon made the announcement, her own Justice Minister had refused to intervene. He claimed that all prisoners are carefully monitored.

Sturgeon backed down because only in the face of relentless pressure. If people had simply accepted the decision, She/It would have still been in Cornton Vale.

A male will be serving time in a jail that houses males. This is normal. The reason there's threads on males going to female jails is because that's pants on head crazy.

Prisons, sports, toilets, and other things should be segregated by sex, not gender. Since gender now is a personal expression and one can change it by the minute, its not practical to use as mean of segregation of things that should be.

I think what's newsworthy is that he was a rapist. If he had transitioned fully with no penis and his crime was something petty then I don't see what the problem would be placing them in a woman's prison. This guy is going to get a lot of attention in a male prison but it sounds like the punishment fits the crime.
