Does your academy have music turned on or off during rolling? During instructions from the instructor, I would prefer it off. But when it comes to rolling, do you like music on or off?

I hate music being on during a roll, especially hip hop or dubstep or whatever garbage kids are listening to these days. It's very distracting.

If I had my way, I'd play chill music in the background every time I roll. It helps me flow. We don't play music though.

Please inform me about the master genre, so I can stay away from non-Einarr approved music.

I love having music when I roll. Don't really care what kind. Our academy plays everything from hard house to Elvis. I am particularly fond of the 80s pop playlist that's been showing up a lot recently.

I always think about what kind of music would be good for a roll, but I've realized that I tune it out when I'm actually on the mat. The only thing I hear is the breathing from me and my partner and the timer. Does anyone else experience that?

we roll every now and then with some good old school rock. black sabbath, ac/dc. good stuff.

We'll generally have music on for warm ups. Often wutang or dubstep. Just the way Einarr likes it.

Sometime they'l have music on during rolls but often not.

I too do not notice it at all when rolling. You are too busy listening to your opponent.

No music during instruction obviously, but while drilling and rolling, yes! I hate it when we don't. I think it makes the class more relaxed when we have music and I've noticed that it makes new people a little less spazzy for some reason. When there isn't any music, it just seems so serious.

Yeah, we turn it off during instruction, but during drilling and rolling someone usually plugs in an Ipod.

Personally I like listening to stuff like old school hip-hop (Wu-tang, Nas, Biggie etc), and Ratatat. One of the main instructors always puts on Dub-Step which I fucking hate. Another teammate of mine has been going on a Mars Volta binge lately which I dig, as I've seen them play several times in concert.

If you are not listening to music WHEN competing -- which is very rare and exclusive to smaller competitions -- than you should not be listening to music while training. Psychology 101. - E

Well we usually have music going on even during instruction, which is beyond annoying. While rolling I don't care one way or another, but I at least want to hear the instructor when he's teaching.

We didn't have music rolling yesterday, I don't like it.

this shit happened to me. I'm not trying to hear somebody else breathing hard as fuck and I just like to roll with no music on when i roll with my instructor, because sometimes im so fucked into the roll i have to tap out verbally.

Yeah always have music while rolling its also pretty cool to see all the diff instructors music preferences. Marcelo's classes are more rock and Brazilian rock. Paul Schriener plays alot of HipHop/Rap. Bernardo Faria plays a mix of both hiphop and rock. The purples belt instructors each have their own flavor too from Punk Rock to Hardcore Hip Hop its fun to listen to but while rolling I barely notice it until after or a break.
