training while injured

broke my ring finger on my right hand landing awkwardly doing a takedown. dont want to sit out any suggestions for things i can work on that wont require the use of my right hand? wont see my instructor until monday so im just curious what you guys could suggest. thanks a lot
 
Tape it to another finger and put on a boxing glove. You can still frame, underhook, whizzer etc...without damaging your finger. Sparring shouldn't be a problem.
 
cool i dont do much standup i was just wondering about rolling, i was thinkin i could watch a bunch of Jean Jaques machado stuff as his game is based on having a hand injury, my coach is a machado black belt anway im sure he will have plenty of stuff for me to drill, thanks for the reply
 
I'm not talking about standup. Wear while you're rolling bjj. I know it sounds unorthodox, but I've seen brown/black belts do something similar to protect an injured finger. If you're in a serious gym no one will mind in the least.
 
Buddy taping is the thing to do. If you're just going to be rolling, that will probably be enough (and just let whoever you're rolling with know about it).

If it gets uncomfortable/painful, don't try to be a super tough guy and grit through it though, you don't want to make things worse -- but you'll probably be just fine rolling.
 
the only chance you have to train safely around an injury is to ditch the ego. i know we talk about this all the time and everyone tries to do it, but you have to take it to another level when you're hurt.

if you (and your partners) can deal with the limitations on your game and just chillax, then you can still get some good training in.
 
i badly sprained my right index finger couple weeks ago, im just very limited on the techniques i can do but i still train and even competed with it, just taped it to the other finger and was careful what i was doing training.


granted its not broken nor do i know how bad your is but ive seen others train around broken fingers or toes, its def possible, just be smart.
 
Train while injured is like having sex while injured.

Men will do it, even when they shouldn't.
 
I broke my hand spinning out of a triangle, lol...I have a horrible cast on so I am screwed...
 
thanks for all the replies, i have no problem leavin my ego at the door and my training partners are pretty cool for the most part and avoid it if they can, i have been taping it and as long as i dont overdo it i think i should be good to go
