I recently had knee surgery (Left knee meniscus repair to be exact) and wondered if it is possible to train without pivoting or bending down an putting full weight on my knee. If so what kind of training is possible?

None. Do your rehab, get as close to full ROM and strength back before you make things worse. Don't try to rush things, you'll just put yourself out longer.

You could hit the gym and do upper body bench exercises and stuff, but that's probably about it.

Same surgery here. 30% removal. It took 6 weeks until I showed up to watch Judo. At about 8 weeks I think I got on the mat and took it real easy. It's been about 3 - 4 months now and I'm at about 85% on the mat. Just chill out and do a bunch of upper body stuff in a weight room. Rehab the knee per Doc's instructions.

They shaved your leg hair for the surgery right? A good rule of thumb: don't show up at your grappling gym until ALL your leg hair has grown back in. Then just watch for a week or two.

Trust me...take it slow dude. One injury usually leads to another, and another, and another...

Wait.
Did you have a repair or a removal?
A repair takes more like 6 months...MUCH longer than the removal.

I had a repair to a tear that my doctor described as "A football field of open space". Only 22 and had a mishap happen while a guy put a knee bar on me while sparring. Grappling withdrawl at its worst right now... had the surgery at the end of August btw...
