Lil Bro got a new camera for Christmas and decided to make me some clips of my training at home (yes, i train at a gym as well). Either way, in response to the "should I throw my arm while kicking" thread the last video is just clips of kicks, both alone and combined with punches. I thought I threw my arm back more than I actually do (hmmmm.)

Critique and advice is always welcome, I know there are alot of you on this forum that have good advice!

IN your second video I noticed your feet coming very close together when moving backwards...you seem to move laterally alot instead of circling..looked like it was throwing off your kicks alot because you were off balance

You also do a little hop with your front foot..telegraphing your kick a bit..other than that..much better than whats normally on here

lol, I think a lot of people (myself included) just like to do that exclusively during bagwork to whack the bag extra hard

I do bring my feet together more than I should, started training more MMA recently and I get put on my back a lot more than I would like when im moving back!

Never noticed that hop with my front foot! your right though, good observation. Thanx!

you look smooth for 18 months. Couple of things I noticed (I am not critiquing shadow boxing, I am trying to interpret your fighting style from it). I did not see the last two vids.

You foot work seems very tentative. I am not sure if I could see you extending that movement to move in and plant while you throw. Not sure if you have the power you get from dropping and punching.

Shadow boxing - You throw very few inside combinations. Mostly jabs from the outside.

Left hook was signaled with you rotating your hips to the outside before you threw.

Jab looked like a cat swatting at something. Loose. I could not determine it it could be made stiff.

I have to say that if I saw you warming up like that, I would plan to walk through your power, maybe take a shot but move in.

Overall nice and loose.

I was bouncing around alot, it was cold outside! I see what your saying , and you are right, i throw volume punches but have not developed a powerful punch. I rely more on my jab to keep my opponent at range, more on my kicks/clinch to do the damage. I have been told numerous times by my boxing coach to "get your lanky ass down low and quit that tip tap shit!"

"Jab looked like a cat swatting at something. Loose. I could not determine it it could be made stiff." : LOL! I can throw my jab stiff enough to pop up my opponents chin, but No.... I cant use it yet to keep an agressive fighter from walking through very effectively. The "swatting" is out of the shell type defense and it is more of a slap than anything, helps me shadow my cross.

When I am in the boxing gym aggressive fighter will walk through my power, My feet and reach are my only answer. I just started boxing about 2yrs (or less) ago, previously I trained MT/Kickboxing for several years, I throw that slapping jab and keep light on my feet probably because I rely more on my kicks........

not sure if its really a problem or anything, but in all the combinations you threw that i saw you didnt throw any punches after your kicks, just punches to a final kick or maybe two kicks at the end. not really anything big but you might be slow to throw hands after your kicks in a real fight. best way to see if you even have a problem at all is go for a minute straight or even 30 seconds of striking without bouncing back to defend yourself like in a real fight. like jab, jab, cross, double roundhouse, cross, slib the jab, attack the body, roundhouse while slipping off to the side after your body shot, cross, uppercut, hook into a thai clinch and throw a few knees and elbows and so on...

Definitely tell you train. You look sharp. I would love to see more shin when making contact and less foot. Other than that keep training brother. Best of luck.

you're the best around... nothings gonna ever keep your down!!!

hahah jk. good work. keep at it man

Nice crisp combo's, I don't know enough about muay thai to critique but it looks like your on your way man, keep at it.

Dang I thought for a second I was going to be able to see videos at work! =(

not bad, but you do not look like you've been doing muay thai or kickboxing for several years like you say. Also you're coming to wide with your left hook, unecessary, your elbow is hanging out badly. All your punches were arm punches, watch your video closely...you are not rotating putting your body weight into them.
Your teep or front kick needs work as well.

With all that being said...your video is still better than the majority who post here asking for critique.

I'm going to make a video and post it just because everyone else does. VIdeo incoming later this week

My left hook does get loopy......... and you're right my teep is not one of my better kicks, i tend to get up on the ball of my foot to often.

Trained TKD/Karate as a kid, then got into JKD in high School. Came from a military family and was constantly moving, why I got into MT and Boxing, it was easier to find gyms that you could just walk into and start training (even more so in Europe). Given this I never really became "advanced" in any one discipline, but spent more time doing MT than anything else.

Decent work. Just try to get your game a bit tighter/methodical.

But then again....you could really rock someone good being that loose and catching them unexpected.

You looked good overall, but sometimes your opposite hand drops when throwing a punch and you tend to put your hands together below your chin instead of at your cheek.

Thanks, yeah.....i do bring my guard a little low, bad habit....... been working on that constantly. Used to drop my right hand when throwing a jab, finally got that corrected (for the most part).

I think when sparring I am actually quite a bit more methodical in my movements etc..... but I see what you are saying and it makes sense!

Being loose helps me use my advantages over most opponents: foot speed, hand speed, reach. More important it helps my weaknesses: Power punching, chin. I really dont have a big punch and honestly, I don't have an iron chin, I get sat down pretty easy...... i get my ass back up though! Staying loose allows me to take less damage and compensates my lack of pure power, like you said....... catching a guy off-guard.

Looks good mate. You do a lot of small unnecessary movements though, it makes your footwork look sloppy. It does the work for you but those little moments where you readjust may leave you open. Try to focus on holding to your basic stance and recovering after each strike or combo precisely and fast back to your stance.
