So in further celebration of Paddy Boxing (that's for you Brandon, lol), we finally have clips of John Duddy in training. John is currently undefeated and a pretty charismatic guy, thus he wins over a lot of crowds. He's a bit of a face-first brawler but he's been working on his Boxing ability. He's got two things most good Irish boxers have/had though. A chin, and a punch to go with it.

Now as much as I like Duddy, recently we've been discussing the speed-bag. Here's how NOT to do it. If this is what some of you'se guys are doing and THINK you can hit the speed bag well, you're not doing it right:

However, the dude CAN fight:

You have warmed my Irish heart, my good man.

He wasn't bad on FNF last night, either

Didn't catch it. He needs to do something about that robot speed-bag hitting though.

you recomend different patterns and paces when hitting the bag correct? other than the same pattern and pace I didn't see much wrong.

Yergh. He's doing everything wrong. You don't just stand in front of the bag with your head up, back straight, and motor your hands only with just slight turns of your waist.

No, I don't just recommend different patterns and paces. I recommend primarily weight-shifting when moving from one hand to the other, your weight should shift from one foot to the other. I recommend working in power punches, moving your feet and walking around and under the bag, as well.

Youtube search for Bojado and view the clip of him on the speed-bag and you'll see how it should be done.

hey king, whats up with pantera's shoes? look like slippers, any reason why they are so different?

and duddy didn't seem too happy to be doing speed bag work. Is it because he's more of a headstong guy, good chin?

He's just a fan of Boxing Shoes that look like running shoes. They're a latest thing in the World of fashion. Miguel Cotto and Marco Antonio Barrera wear similar ones as well.

Eh. The high-tops have a lot of good ankle support. But the tread on the bottoms are what's the most important factor as well as lightness on the feet. If you don't have ankle problems then you don't so much need the high-tops. The low tops grip the canvas well enough and are light.
