Basically I'm looking to get a pair of gloves that can be multipurpose for me. I will use them to hit the bag and pads as well as for light sparring. I'm new to the sport so I'm definitely looking for value here, from the talk here I was leaning towards the KO Fightgear gloves, but I'm a bit worried because I have small hands and I want something that fits. My hand is about 3 3/4 inch across the knuckles and I generally wear 180" handwraps under the gloves. Any advice on a glove that might fit me is appreciated.

I think you'll be fine with the KOfightgear since the hand compartment is not big at all. But generally you don't want to use the same gloves for heavy bag use and sparring since it wears off the padding for sparring. You better of getting two gloves one for bag use and one for sparring. Just make sure its design for that specific purpose.

I'm going to second what nicky said, try to get two different pairs of gloves. There are a couple reasons for this...

If you use sparring gloves on the bag or pads it will make padding more compressed and harder, which isn't good for your sparring partners.

Additionally, they aren't meant for bag/pad work so you will wear them out quicker.

I would definitely recommend KO's gloves though. My hand is a bit smaller than yours, and I also use wraps, and KO's gloves are perfect!

If you can swing a second pair of gloves I would recommend getting a pair of King for bag work. I ordered a pair of King from Fight Stuff and I just love them to the point that I'm mad excited whenever I have a chance to do pad work or hit the bag :D

I agree also with nicky said..

more info

oxing gloves come in a variety of sizes, materials and colours.

Leather gloves are recommended for training, although leather may cost a little extra, they will last longer. For fitness classes, this may not be an issue, but for punching the heavy bag, focus pads and even sparring it is more important.

For professional boxing, you will see gloves tied on with laces, this provides a snug fit for the boxers. For training purposes in the gym, Velcro wrist straps are more popular as you can easily put the gloves on and remove them yourself, with laced boxing gloves, you will need someone around to put them on and take them off.

Having the right size gloves is also important.
Boxing gloves come in small, medium and large sizes. The average man will need a large size and the average woman a medium. The weight of boxing gloves range from 10 - 20 ounces, children boxing gloves range from 4 - 8 ounces.

The heavier the glove, the more protection it offers. Beginners are recommended to use 12oz 14oz or 16oz gloves.
For sparring purposes, 16oz gloves are standard.
In a professional boxing match, the fighters usually wear 10oz gloves.

That's some really good information here. like many people here, I'm a really big fan of KOFightgear. in fact, I will be ordering the bag here in a few days.

Wow, what great responses! Thank you all so much.

I know I should really get two sets, but to start with I think I will get the 16 oz KO Fightgear gloves. I'm only involved in light sparring at my gym at this point (not full contact), but as I (hopefully) advance I will get a set of bag gloves as well. So far I've been using 14oz worn out gloves from the gym for sparring, so my partners will thank me for any change I'm certain.

Sounds like a good plan. I have Fairtex, Twins Special Gloves, and recently purchased a pair of the Title (Pro) Super Bag Gloves which are really nice, but I have to agree with everyone else here about the KO Fightgear Gloves. Even though I do not own any of their gloves, everyone that does speaks highly of them, and for the price + free shipping, you can't beat that.

Even though I do not need anymore gloves, I am sure I will probably be getting a pair of the KO Fightgear Gloves here shortly. It is pretty rare that you find gloves in that price range that everyone really likes, and I hear Neil is a great guy to deal with.

you lost some cool points for that comment man:D

You know what they say, "it's a free country", and everything is a matter of personal preference and choice. That's why in almost all my posts you will see statements prefaced with "IMHO" (In My Humble Opinion), or "it's all a matter of personal preference" or "do what works best for you", etc...

Sometimes when I see someone ask a question, or someone doesn't necessarily agree with someone else's opinion, I notice a number of negative laden comments, expressed as fact rather than opinion. Some of the berading responses are nothing more than an opinionated tyrade.

I gave an opinion in another post the other day, and quoted a scientific theory. Someone else responded that they couldn't believe anyone would quote a, "steaming pile of bullsh*t theory" like that. Yet didn't bother to offer any productive input, alternative theories, produce proof that the one I was quoting was invalid, or show us all a notorized copy of their, "All Knowing Oracle Certification".

Like I say, everything is a matter of personal opinion and preference.

If you're really strapped for cash, get the kofg for starters then get a 2nd pair when your money allows you to.

As a friend told me "never be a cheapskate when it comes to gear"

I personally have 2 pairs of boxing gloves and 2 pairs of mma gloves.
