Just for some fun........
I realized today at our noon class that training in a Gi is much more realistic than training No-Gi, in particular for "tha street". Why? Well, it was the first time I've trained No-Gi in about 6 months. And I had a guy in side mount. He made a hard shrimp out, and I accidentally grabbed the belt line of his shorts to hold him in. Ooops. Cant grab clothes in No-Gi. Also made the same error from inside his guard. I postured, and grabbed his belt line as he went for a bit of a sloppy triangle. Cant grab his shorts.
In tha skreet, you can grab clothes, there aren't too many naked guys fighting. In No-Gi, you cant grab shorts or shirt. In a real fight, you can grab clothing.
Gi is more realistic than No-Gi. And adding strikes makes it even more real.
So, the most real way to train is in a Gi...with small gloves to allow strikes. No-Gi where you cant even grab the shorts or shirts is so unrealistic.
Discuss (getting my popcorn...)
