A court martial will be held in Ottawa today for Canada’s top special forces soldier after he accidentally fired his weapon.

Maj.-Gen. Michael Rouleau is charged under the National Defence Act with one count of neglect to the prejudice of good order and discipline.
A statement from Rouleau released earlier this year says he was loading his rifle while preparing to visit a frontline position when the weapon fired a single round.

No one was injured but Rouleau said in his statement that for a soldier “the only acceptable standard of care with a weapon is error-free.”

“As the commanding general, I am every bit as accountable as the youngest private in the force,” he added.

He also noted he would accept full responsibility at the court martial.

“Accountability underpins our actions as soldiers and especially as leaders,” he said.

The Canadian Forces laid 213 charges related to negligent discharges in 2013-14 and 107 in 2015-16.

Sounds silly, but it makes me optimistic that heads would roll if Canadians blew up a fucking hospital.

If it were up to liberals a soldiers can only shoot back once they are hit and ready to die.

Yes this was dangerous, but soon we will see soldiers in trouble for killing to many enemies

Bro, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I guess that's what assholes get when they ND.

for a general to fuck up weapon safety its a big mr bean moment. ya it is disgraceful.

Bro, I have no idea what you're talking about.

During the second Iraq tour and in Afghanistan it started to become stupid.
Soldiers were not allowed to fire a gun unless they reported it to their superior who would call it into hq for permission ,all while bullets are wizzing by.
Immediate return fire can only be used when someone is hit.
Thats a liberal in charge of the war.

Yeah, that happened long before Obama. I don't see what that has to do with some General neg dissing into the ground

Publicity stunt imo.

"Accidently" discharge his weapon. Drag him before a court martial and give him a slap on the wrist, restore faith in the accountability of the chain of command

You heard it here folks, taking responsibility for your actions is now a liberal position. Also somehow a bad thing.

Keep your finger off the trigger unless you are ready to shoot at a target. That's the #1 rule of firearm handling. It's pretty disappointed that the guy in charge of Canadian special operation forces made a rookie mistake.

Negligent discharges kill people.
That weapon didn't load itself, take itself off safety and pull its own trigger.
Good thing he's being held accountable.

In the local news here months ago, a cop "accidentally" discharged his gun and shot a bar mama-san in the stomach. I'm guessing he was being a prick.
