News Top Rank calls off two fight cards over lack of COVID-19 testing, blames Donald Trump

Theres a difference in shut down and saying everyone back to work at easter and old people need to deal with getting it

How is everyone working and old people need to deal with it different than what we do every year for a deadly virus that claims tens of thousands of lives, man?

Coronavirus worldwide has 620,000 confirmed (obviously way low), 28,000 dead, something like that. In the US, we have 100,000 confirmed (obviously way low) and 1,600 dead.

US seasonal flu is at what right now, 50M infected and 40,000 dead, majority of them old people? 2019-2020 season. US alone.

I can't say I see anything wrong with saying we'll hope to have people getting past this soon and back to normal. You guys seem to think that our leaders should be out there telling us life is over and to prepare to die.

And honestly, in a months time, there probably will be people who can get back to work. What about the thousands who recover from coronavirus? They'll be able to go back to work.
There are plenty of people working now who get no break. Also, what if all these steps we take aren't working and infection rates keep climbing? Is there a point in continuing with shutdown if its not working?

too many people not complying. For it to work really need to have much better compliance.

There is no "work". It's a very contagious virus. Like the flu. Yeah, I know. It's not the flu. Everyone in the US will be exposed to it (even you) at some point unless they are in self-isolation through the fall.
Some will get it, few will suffer serious complications, fewer still will die.
But it's going to happen. There is no stopping it.
For all we know, a quarter or more of us have already been exposed. We simply don't know that part.

I agree with that. I know someone who works in a convenience store and she says she's seeing tons of people she never sees in that store mostly buying scratch off lottery tickets and beer. She says the store is as busy as it ever was but its mostly people thinking they're going somewhere "safe" and out of the way to buy nonsense because they're bored.
I'm in the middle on this one. I'm OK with having some hope and looking to the future. This doom and gloom environment is not good for our country. But at the same time, it bothers me that people are ignoring advice for the present.

Agree with this too. All the cases we've confirmed are just those we've tested. It doesn't count those with mild symptoms that don't seek treatment or those who show no symptoms at all. I saw a vid by a South Korean doctor that says as many as 20% of people confirmed positive show no symptoms. These are the guys who are still delivering your mail and handing you your Big Mac at the drive-thru.

there appear to be plenty of microbiologist and Epidemologist that disagree with you.

That's interesting, actually. Never thought of it. And weird. A weird trait to come out during this on the scratch-offs.
Off-topic, but I bet she can confirm this---I worked at a gas station evenings/nights one summer after I'd get off from my paving job. Livin' the dream, right? It wasn't that bad, actually.
Anyway, there were the same 4 or 5 guys who would come around on Friday evenings (payday in those days---this is 25-30 years back) and buy 100 of those $1 scratch-off lottery tickets. There were only a few different options back then, not 800 different ones like now. When I was pulling them out and folding/counting them, they'd say "make it 150" or "what number is it on? what number is that one on? what about the cash explosion? make it 200 total, 50 from each", whatever. Always asking what number the roll was on. They had a system.
*rolls eyes*
They would bring back their free ticket, $1, $2, $5 and $10 winners (and once in a while a $50 winner) and get more. Rinse and repeat. $100, $150, $200 gone within an hour. Scratching them off right there on the hood of some beater car or truck. Then leaving with their quart or two of beer and a couple packs of cigarettes once all the money was gone. I used to think it was sad and wonder if they had a family at home and a wife who was hoping they didn't stop on the way home this Friday for lottery tickets. Again.
And circa 1990/1991, $150 or $200 out of a weeks pay for a laborer was a significant portion. Very significant.

Back OT in our coronavirus thread, two weeks working from home has me hoping it's not four more, I can tell you that.
I will go back to the office as soon as they will let me at this point. It's right down the road, but they sent something out to the effect of avoid the office if it all possible notes early this week. I went in a week ago this past Tuesday because I wanted a couple things from my office here for "the magic factory" I set up on the dining room table, but fuck all. I'll be Nicholson in The Shining in a month...

About what? That everyone will be exposed at some point, as you are every year to the (supposedly 3 X) less contagious seasonal flu virus?
Can you cite one?
I've not seen any such claim by any of them. That you can completely avoid exposure to this. Only that they want to delay it/flatten the curve, etc.
And I've been listening.

that we need to shelter in place to slow the disease so we don’t see the chaos in NY, Spain, Italy overwhelm the hospitals

seasonal flu doesn’t break everyone’s healthcare system like this has! Why is that?
likening it to seasonal flu is fckin laughable. It’s much more contagious

Rapid response, mass testing, perpetual contact tracing,, Germany lead the world, as usual.
Terrific, well funded socialised medical facilities, enable this.
Homogeneous, hard-working indigenous populations like Germany and Japan (and some of the other European nations aside from Germany) enable(d) this. But alas, refugee importation does not. So,...
Let's see if Germany is your beacon on the hill in 20 years. Hell, 10. Hint: it's over.

But enjoy that what, 20% VAT over there for your "free" healthcare? 22%?
Yet we still have the absolute best healthcare, research, development and facilities here in the US. Funny how that works.

I think I said, supposedly 3 X as contagious. 10 X as deadly, huh? No. You're using bad/very early numbers for that. If it's 2.5%, which would be very high for a virus---when all is said and done, then it would be like 3 times as high on the deadly front, I think. Isn't seasonal .75% or something?

Off-topic, I have a scanner in the background since I'm bored silly with no fights and just arguing this minor flu bug with you all, and while it's not great around here normally these days with ODs, it's like a festival of heroin overdoses this afternoon/evening so far. Strange. Not sure if bad junk is out there or if it could be a phenomenon of this virus scare or what.

Jesus, we need some fights.

Italian deaths have hit 10,000 in under 4 weeks. Wake the fuck up!

It's not about #s or facts to some.... It's about being right at all cost and not admitting an idol is flawed.
It's still easy to pretend its media scare tactics if you still have a job and none of your family members have died yet.

My best friend just lost his well paying job today. They laid off their whole staff in this region a pretty big company too.

Are you saying that distancing measures serve no purpose? What are you basing this on?
