Japan is land of small sized men but still holds a solid list of 170-185 lbers. Maybe top 5 ever by nation?

    1.Kazushi Sakuraba
    2.Yushin Okami
    3.Kazuo Misaki
    4.Yuki Kondo
    5.Akihiro Gono

From 205 to HW is weak though

Okami is #1 imo. He's severely underrated and has a killer list of opponents on his resume when they were in their prime.

Sakurai didnt fight at 185 afik ayways anyone in the OP is bigger and would beat him imo except maybe Gono
Mizuno and Fukuda didnt fight at 170 asik, anyways they would hardly be in the top10 at any weight class, just like Taekuchi

Sakuraba 1997-2005 is better than Okami in his best days and had an even harder killer list of opponnents imo

Was a top contender from 2004 to 2014. I pick him to beat any Japanese of his weight except Saku.
He is old now but stll doing way better than any other Japanese at his age

I think Sakurai fought Crosley Gracie at 183 because he's crazy.

The fact that he was matched up with the #1 at the time Anderson Silva 3 different times is telling enough.

Going WAY back Funaki and Suzuki were pretty good in pancrase. They had wins (possibly worked) over guys like Bas, Mezger and the Shamrocks.
