The thread about Weidman fighting Jones reminded me of Bj Penn beating Hughes the first time and how incredible that was.

So I thought of this topic, name 5 fights that you think were truly amazing accomplishments. Like plausible movie plots

    1. Bj Penn moving up in weight to challenge Hughes, and winning in the first round.
    2. Wanderlei fighting a prime Cro Cop at HW, and winning.
    3. Lyoto Machida goes 16-0 while handily winning every round he fought in, and winning the belt.
    4. Fedora run, defeating Arlovski and Sylvia in that one round to top it off.. Wearing hipster hats the entire time
    5. Royce Gracie winning UFC 1 despite a huge size disadvantage

Arguably lost?? What round do you think Penn won? I suggest you go rewatch that fight.

Actually don't, its not very exciting

-Marco Ruas at UFC 7 showing what a REAL "well rounded fighter" was for the first time in a UFC.
    -Frank Shamrock beating Tito.
-Fedor beating Nog the first time.
-Vitor blitzing Tank at his own game.
-Crocop kicking Igors chin into the stratosphere.

These are just some that first come to mind. After thinking about it for a while I'll probably change it.

I don't need to rewatch it, it is indeed not very exciting. But the first round was all BJ. Half a round of top control and he was very competitive on the feet.

Idk how interesting Robbie Lawler's life is outside of MMA, but his journey to become UFC champion could be a good plot. Went from extremely promising young fighter to fighting his way through other orgs for a long time until his return to the UFC and with an amazing run. Hendricks v. Lawler 2 wasn't an amazing fight, but I'm sure a movie could exaggerate and make it look more awesome

Randy coming out of retirement and beating Tim Sylvia was pretty awesome.

I was thinking off adding that to my list i posted previously, not to mention it holds the record for longest MMA match in history (90 minutes). Royce had broken his foot and told Helios he couldn't continue thus the towel thrown. A beautiful moment.

Not exactly an exciting fight from an action perspective, but Couture beating Sylvia was pretty damn awesome.

That's a pretty good list; especially the first 3. And, I agree, Ruas was the first real "well-rounded fighter." He had size, power, submissions, stamina, and versatile striking. My tentative list might be:

*Frank Shamrock vs Tito (David vs Goliath epic)
*McGregor beating Mendes- Conor proves he's the real deal and the UFC's new poster boy (along with Rousey)
*Royce Vs. Saku 1- the pageantry of Pride and the grueling 90 minute bout
*Fedor vs Nog 1- A new dominant superstar emerges
*UFC purchased by Zuffa = without this, the sport may never have become this popular
