Top 4 LHWs vs Top 4 HWs

If every top 4 heavyweight were to fight every top 4 light heavyweight which group would have more wins?

Essentially everyone of these guys:

1. Jones
2. Cormier
3. Gus
4. Rumble

fights every one of these guys:

1. Cain
2. Werdum
3. JDS
4. Travis Browne

I think Travis Brown goes 0-4. Werdum likely goes 0-4 or 1-3 (if he can take Gus down). JDS would be lucky to go 2-2. Cain may be able to run the table but Jones and Cormier would be tough for him. It looks to me like LHW is tougher than HW. What do you think?

* all fights are at HW so no weight cutting.

Good thread. I definitely think LHW has the more skilled fighters at the top. However, it's hard to overlook just how much size seems to matter. Look at guys like Mitrione and Browne. They have no real skill other than they are athletic. Yet, they find themselves routinely winning by KO/TKO in the first round because it just takes one good shot. Browne's size and takedown defense might be too much for any LHW. I think a guy like Werdum wouldn't do well at LHW, since he doesn't possess big power. But if he got on top of Rumble or Gus, which are certainly possible given his size advantage and tricky takedowns, game over.

Werdum loses to Jones and Cormier. Might beat Gus and Rumble

I'm real excited about Cormier-Jones this week. In my head, I don't think Cormier is as good as people believe, but I'd be glad to be proven wrong. I just don't think he could grind down a guy like JDS before getting tagged with something meaningful.

Jones 1-3, I LOVE the Werdum fight, I actually think Werdum takes it.

Rumbe 1-3 I think both guys would beat Browne.

It's an interesting thought exercise for speculation.
For the HWs, I'd say they minimally go 3-0-1, 1-3, 3-1, 0-4, meaning essentially even. And I'm probably underselling Werdum and Browne.

However, comparing a couple guys from the extreme edge of the division is a terrible way to compare divisions. Take a look at 5-15 vs 5-15, for example, and see how LHW compares vs HW there.

I'm with this guy.

If it was so easy to go to HW and win I think guys would do it.

Look at Rumble, he couldn't even knockout Arlovski, who has been mocked for years about having a glass jaw. But Rumble completely annihilated Lil Nog who only lost by KO once before he met Johnson in the cage.

This. Jones may put up a decent fight with the HWs but other than than I think the top HW's squash the top LHW's unless the HW are forced to cut massive weight.
