I found a countdown 10 article on MiddleEasy.com, pretty disturbing stuff.

Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone help me a little more to understand what causes these brutal infections? I understand that they are caused by bacteria, but some look like total craters in the skin - so does that in turn mean that the bacteria has to get inside of a laceration to cause Staph?

Also, why so prevalent in MMA? I don't think I've ever heard of a Football player having Staph.

The list is relatively old, so some of the links are dead, but still worth a quick look.

The Randleman one looks like something out of The Walking Dead.

Horrific!

I'm surprised Maia's wasn't mentioned; He mentioned many times that his was life threatening.

Yeah from sweaty dirty bacteria

always clean the fuck out of the mats at the gym, disinfect the be-Jesus out of them

How did ZP go with suing the doctors?

Randleman could have been an Espada with that shit.

This, be careful with some gym equipment to. My mate got nasty staph infection from a local gym, still fucking with him. Hence why I lose my shit when lazy fuckers don't wipe down equipment after using it. Definitely one of the worst pictures I have seen of it.

Oh shit. That is terrible. I don't ever want to see a picture of a staph infection again.

Skin infections are a common problem among athletes at all levels of competition; among wrestlers, 8.5% of all adverse events are caused by skin infections. Wrestlers are at risk because of the constant skin-to-skin contact required during practice and competition. The most common infections transmitted among high school wrestlers include fungal infections (e.g., ringworm), the viral infection herpes gladiatorum caused by herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1), and bacterial infections (e.g., impetigo) caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus species, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcal aureus (MRSA).

Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) has become a leading cause of skin and soft tissue infection in the nonhospitalized community. Care of the athletes in athletic training rooms is specifically designed with equipment tailored to the health care needs of the athletes, yet recent studies indicate that CA-MRSA is still prevalent in athletic facilities and that cleaning methods may not be optimal.
