Hey all, I'm a little unsure about wether I should step into my first smoker event or not. I've only been training about three and a half months, but ever since I've started it's been the center off all my focus and attention and I train 6 days a week more often than not. I really want to get the experience and to have fun but while I'm confidant of my skills for someone of my experience, I'm unsure if fighting now would be such a good idea since I am constantly developing week by week and smokers aren't the most organized and I may be paired up with someone with much more experience than me.

It's an MMA fight, and I'm just unsure if I should just go into it now or if I'm just being a little too headstrong and waiting three or four more months certainly wouldn't hurt.

Do it. It's the best way to get better. You seem committed and the time you served seems pretty hardcore. You'll learn alot from your first fight.

I wouldn't recommend stepping in there just yet, i'd say wait a bit, atleast until you've got 5-6 months of sparring under your belt, and that much more training, it's fun to go in there and try, but not to step in there and get beaten around by a guy who's been doing it for waaaay longer.

8 months would be ideal and you should be well ready, but don't jump the gun too soon, i'd say wait, or ask your trainer/coach/team mates to be sure since only they know your true ability.

wait wait... its mma and you have NO previous experience, even competing in, ANY other martial art? like no amateur kickboxing matches? no bjj tournies or wrestling? dude i would suggest finding out if your even good at the basics before going for a mma bout...

Well I train at an MMA school and I split my time equally to grappling and muay thai. I thought if I just entered a grappling tournament or a muay thai fight I would be at a disadvantage. I remember going to one BJJ school to visit and completely get worked by their guys, however one guy (who is a blue belt) from that school joined my gym and while he could beat me pure grappling, MMA it was actually -alot- closer and I dominate whenever I stand up with him. I dunno, I just figured since I dedicate my training to MMA, I'd be at a disadavantage fighting against others who are didicated to one specific, foreign ruleset. That's just what I've known from my very limited experience, and of course I may be wrong.

Have you sparred alot? Thats very important.

Almost every day I train. If for some reason I don't spar standup I'll surely roll and vice versa, often days I do both do. Some days with my better people and some days with worse. Man I'm itchen for the experience, but I'm not for getting my ass totally killed in front of my friends and family. Eh, I'm just really unsure about facing a roided midget (I'm 5'8 140) or a much more experienced, sandbagging fighter. I'm thinking I'd be prime picking for some guy who wants to sandbag just to get a fun win. Apparently that happens alot in some of these smokers.

Edit: To clarify, I'm not scarred of getting beat up or hurt, just more being completely embaressed and outclassed.

Yeah make sure your confident before you get in there. If you don't know who youll be fighting and how much expierence they have you may wanna hold off. If you know youll get a competitive match up take it, ask your coach hell let you know if its a good idea.
