One of the biggest things that are talked about with the Tony x Khabib matchup is this speculation of what will happen when Khabib puts Tony on his back and Tony starts working off guard with those nasty elbows.

I'm ready to completely dismiss that notion, right here right now...

Khabib doesn't keep guys on their back and stay in their guard for too long or very often. Tony will be dealing with wrist control, with his back on the cage, or with Khabib weighing down on his back, like every other Khabib opponent.

Tony is not like every other Khabib opponent.

I think Tony could pull guard early in the fight. Khabib has great too control because he controls his opponents legs from the takedown allowing him to pass guard quickly. Of Tony pulls guard he will control position of his legs on the ground

Tony is likely a bit past it

    I expect khabib to dominate

I love Tony, I really do

He is a bad man, but khabib is bang inhis prime and coming off the back of two dominating victories, over two very skilled fighters

I just can't see past khabib

Possibly, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The reason people don't play guard with Khabib is that his GNP is so ferocious that they decide they are better off giving their back and trying to stand up, which is where he does a lot of his good work.

I will say that Tony is going to be his biggest test in this facet of the game with his grappling/scrambling abilities.

This is the first guy Khabib will fight that is known for fighting off his back. He's fought and beat good grapplers like Pat Healy, RDA and I had high hopes for Poirier but knew he was untested for the most part in the wrestling and bottom game. All of his subs come from being on top.

I'm not saying Tony will win but if anybody at the top of the 155lbs division has a chance to challenge Khabib from their back it is El Cucuy

I'm hoping that he'll be on his feet jabbing Khabib into oblivion.

But yeah, op has a good point. Tony most likely is not going to be defending from his back.

Tony is in his mid 30’s and has injuries....

he also is on a 12-fight win streak and has been battering his opponents, let’s not start the narrative that Tony is too old for this fight.

Tony's best chance is grabbing a choke before Khabib gets him down, similar to what dustin did twice in their fight.

We wouldn't be talking about this if Dustin hadn't kept backing up to the cage.

    Cuts.

If he gets cuts in, which he can, he will win.

Tony's the kind of guy who lets his girl get on top so he can work from his back.
