    don't know much about boxing and was wondering how that works. didn't briedris win the fight (wbc silver belt) to be the mandatory n1 challenger ?

    Yep, that's why I said he's ducking. When a champion doesn't defend against his mandetory, they have the option of stripping him.
    Like the IBF did to to Tyson Fury, he refused their mandetory so he can pursue a rematch against Wlad klit.
    Mairis is fighting on the same card as Tony though. We'll see what happens later, but one thing for sure, they can strip him now, but they didn't, and he did turn it down the mandetory's request and sign a different fight.

    ok thx now i get it better. but what makes a promotion strip their champion ? since clearly bellew didn't do what he was supposed to do but didn't get stripped. is it all about the money and how marketable the contenders are when compared to champ who would get stripped ? marketing wise this makes sense, to make briedis more known (especially if he can win a spectacular fight) before he fights bellew
