Wand, the best LHW in the world, took his first loss at the weight in PRIDE in over 5 years to Arona.

Shogun completed arguably the greatest year in MMA history after a grueling battle with Overeem, then going on to out-grapple and knock out Arona, claiming one of the best wins in the division's history. He became the best LHW in the world by the end of the event and a Top-3 p4p fighter.

And of course the legendary and most hyped MMA fight ever in Emelianenko-Filipovic.

Man, time flies. I was in HS at the time, remember being so hyped with the few people that watched MMA at my school leading up to it.

ordered the PPV and watched it live.

1.Fuck Arona and his boring ass lay n pray style. Especially shouting in Wand's face after such a mind numbing performance.
    2.Loved watching Shogun merc him.
3.Fedor vs. Cro Cop was fireworks.

This event basically happened right before I got back into MMA after not paying attention since Tank was KOing fuckers in the UFC.

I really wish I would have been watching during the PRIDE glory years.

Pretty much no one liked Arona, lol. He had some fanboys but I can't remember the last time a great fighter was so disliked by almost all of the MMA community. He had one of the most suffocating top games though, and iirc never even had a point scored against him in ADCC. He was competitive grappling with everyone, even Fedor, but Shogun just put a clinic on him. It was surreal to watch. From the omoplata sweep, to taking him down, passing his guard more than once, vintage knees from side control, nearly mounting him, and the iconic finishing sequence. One of the most dominant performances I have seen in the sport. No one made the use of stomps as violent and technical as Shogun did.

I was still a TUF noob at the time and only knew Pride from videos on Ebaumsworld. Its too bad, it would have been awesome to watch live.

is it worth watching if you didn't like any of the fighters that came over to the ufc from pride?

I miss PRIDE. Best MMA org ever, the best fighters of the time, the best presentation to this day. MMA just isn't as fun or exciting as it was when PRIDE was doing it.
