TKO or KO?

Thought I mights in here isntead of the heavyweight forum because people are so much politer and friendlier here (:

How do they decide the differernce if a fights ends with a KO or a TKO? The ref often ends the fight in my experience. ike if someone floors someone and tries to jump him and the ref pulls him of before he has dealt any blows to the downed opponent is that a KO because the ref still stopped the fight? Refr stoppage = TKO?

KO implies the guy is out cold.

TKO is when a person is unable to intelligently defend themselves and the referee stops the fight to prtotect him from further damage, but he is not actually unconcious.

Yeah I know the difference but who and how to they decide if it is a TKO or KO. For example a guy who knocks someone down and proceds to jump on the guy and deliver some more blows before the ref can step in. Even if the guy who got downed wouldn't had got up in the first palce is it still a TKO?

^usually, if the ref has to jump in and stop a guy from striking it is a tko. If the ref stops it because one guy went out cold it is a KO.

I thought a KO was basically not being able to beat the 10 count regardless if you are out or not. When people can't make it up after a nasty body shot, they are contious but can not beat the count.

TKO = Ref decides fighter can not intelligently defend himself, continue due to a cut or other physical damage, the corner throws in the towel, or the fighter does not answer the bell.

I am assuming he is talking about MMA. Usually a guy in boxing doesn't start raining down more punches once you are unconscious. I could be wrong though, he might be talking about boxing. The way he worded it I though he was talking about mma.

While I would agree with you when it comes to boxing I thought we were talking about mma, where you don't get a ten count so its either out cold or i'd think it was a TKO.

But even if the guy is out cold the other fighter may jump him and deliver some more punches and forcing the ref to jump in and stop it you know. Do they change it afterwards? Like the refs at the side or something?

Fair enough.... I always think boxing/kickboxing in the striking forum unless otherwise noted.

ttt the question is still not answerd?

Repet the basics

MMA KO or TKO

How do the decide that a KO isn't a TKO or vice versa. People have said that generally KO means out cold and TKO means ref stoppage. and I knew this but sometiems a fighter is outcold and the other fighter still follows thru and delivers some more punches/kicks so the ref has to stop it? And can a GNP lead to a KO? becasue the fighters often doesn't stop until the ref pulls them off

Not really i've seen people rocked and went to the floor but they were never out and it was ruled a KO,(Anderson vs Leben).

STFU Noob!!! Just kidding, just thought I'd make like the heavyweight threads. :) But the difference between KO and TKO can best be described by watching fights. UFC 58 (I think) for instance, when GSP put away Sherk, that was TKO because he wasn't really knocked out, he was just so hurt he couldn't keep fighting. And when Franklin put away Quarry, that was a KO because Nate was asleep. So basically TKO is being disqualified because you are too damaged to keep fighting. And KO is being dissqualified for taking a nap. Got it?

Leben was about 99.9% asleep not 100%. Quarry, Buentello, and half the poor guys Tank KOed in the early days were 100% asleep. You can't blame them for missing that .01% :). Leben was only awake enough to hold his head, spit out his mouth piece and think to himself, "Hmmmm...maybe I'm not that good?...I should probubly stop talking all that rediculous sh*t I've been talking."

According to the rules the UFC has posted, the only KO is a TKO; all knockouts are technical knockouts.
