What was sherdogs reaction to this fight back when it happened?

Sometimes I believe some fighters just have harder time facing certain people. I wouldn’t really say it’s styles make fights, more like anything can happen like how big foot gets knocked out all the time then survives a 5 round war with Hunt. Or Jon not wiping the floor with osp. Etc

And yes this is about the Khabib/Al fight.

Soto is a very defensive counter striker.
Wasn't that easy to put him away.
Oh and styles make fights XD

tj won every round didnt he?

I was in the hotel when all that happened.

I even went to the event I give joe props for in an hour saying yes to fighting the champ.

WHO CARES!?!?
TJ is still a beast
Khabib is still a beast

A big issue as well is that when a big name faces overmatched opposition he has more of an option to play it safe for a decision rather than taking the same risks he might vs a better opponent.

Someone like Fedor for example who would disrespect mid level opponents like Goodridge and just look to blast though them right away is increasingly rare in todays sport.

Yes but I remember people were saying Cruz would beat TJ because of how often TJ got hit especially in the 1st round. And I'm a Cruz fan but judging fighters based short notice fights should be taken with a grain a salt.

But so did Khabib that’s the point I’m getting at. TJ was still a great fighter and probably one of the best we have right now. One “ok” performance didn’t define him. People acting like 50-43 is a bad thing for Khabib.

Sherdog was a nicer place back then

In the cases of Soto/TJ and Khabib/Al, it's important to note that all those fighters are dealing with a sudden change of opponent, not just the challengers.

Soto had a very solid performance given the circumstances, and TJ a great one.

I agree, both performances were great. Total domination from bell to the end. I wouldn’t take away anything from TJ-Soto, a good performance is a good performance. Soto was first bellator FW champ and I think has like a 5-4 record in ufc now. He was the best guy they could get to fight Tj on that notice similar with khabib and raging al.

If Soto made it a close fight it would be different but TJ danced on him
