Exactly, just saying they were stolen with no evidence won't mean anything at all. Try walking into any pawn shop and just saying that item is yours. No police report, no evidence. see what they tell you. If it was stolen, Tito should have all the proof in the world. The fact that he decided to bitch on twitter about it instead of going right at the source kind of tells me it is all BS.

Where do you get the idea he hauled away a box of VHS tapes? It says there are vhs tapes among the items, not a box full of VHS tapes. Ditto for the mail. It's just boxes of stuff. You don't know whats in them until you get them home and go through them all.

Whether it was all tapes in the box or also mail and posters, who starts grabbing random boxes of stuff that looks worthless? Even if he knew it was Tito's he'd have to know that kind of stuff would be hard to fence. Unless you think he just backed a van up to Tito's garage and spent 20 minutes loading everything he could see into it

seller sounds like an idiot "i bought these and have a receipt" yeah you bought stolen goods and someone gave you a receipt so that makes it legal.

i'm actually not sure how this sort of thing would work, he didn't knowingly buy stolen items, he purchased what was in a storage until, you don't know what's in it prior to purchasing it. so i am really not sure how the law works here.

tito should give him the 3k though, it's not a lot of money for him.

Tito doesn't need a police report. The balance of probabilities is tipped in his favor from the start, since the seller says this stuff belonged to Tito. The seller has to prove that the items were legally acquired, not just from the storage locker, but from Tito himself. He either has to prove Tito rented that locker, or whoever put them in there was the rightful owner. It doesn't matter what you believe, this is a civil matter, and the scales are tipped in Tito's favor.

Letters that belonged to famous people are different. Show me an unopened piece of mail being sold that the owner of the mail says was stolen from them. Show me that industry.

Here's an example where LAPD knows the stuff has been stolen but people still needed to show them a police report to verify it was actually stolen from them.

If you believe your property is depicted in any of the photographs... include a brief description of the item, the item number written on the yellow tab in the photograph, the name listed as the victim on your burglary report, the report number, the address where the burglary occurred, the date of the crime and a callback number

My understanding is the items were in someone else's storage unit, not Titos. The seller bought the unit when the owner didn't pay. Tito did not how the items were taken or came about to be missing.
