After reading all up & down from Biggiebrother's thread "A TIP to Help your JAB", I was pretty damn intrigued by some of the answers that people gave. So, I figured, hell why just a tips to help your jab thread? Let's get even more technical, let's discuss tips for improving not only our jabs, but our straights, hooks, uppercuts, body shots, set-ups, combos, etc. :icon_twis

Man, this thread's in the process of bombing bad. lol. Oh well, & I thought it was a good idea. Is it because I smell, or am I just not cool enough for you guys? Oh, I understand:

I can smell you from here.

A tip for all straight punches: Try to turn over your punch at the moment before impact. This forces your arm to line up and your tricep to fully exert itself. This is actually the first and in my opinion best thing I ever learned about punching. The boost in the power of your punch is very noticeable.

A tip for all punches: Hips hips hips hips hips. No matter what punch you're throwing or what position you're in the main power of a punch should be coming from your hips. Torquing your bodyweight into your punches is the best thing you can do for power. I've got a weak upper body but I'm still heavy handed because I have strong hips and I use them well.

I agree with both of these statements. If you're having a hard time turning over your fist at the last second, you can try the drill my coach used to do. For just a round or two, throw punches straight at the bag without turning your hand over. No need to go fast, but do it relaxed. When you then go to throwing punches with the snap at the end, you'll (hopefully) notice that it's easier and more natural to turn the wrist over at the last second. Like the Cowboy said, when you do it at the last second, your power is boosted big-time. It gives a wicked snap to your punch and brings your hand back quickly.

:icon_arro Hey, that's some pretty good stuff there. Keep it up guys.

practice your left hook (or right if you're a southpaw) a lot. perfect the technique. it's one of the most powerful punches in the game IMHO.

Great advice... I will add some more:

The lead foot ALWAYS has to be ahead of your head. If you break this rule you will become off balanced. The lead leg should also be slightly bent just like the rear leg. This prevents you from throwing arm punches by placing too much weight on your rear foot.
