This is mostly for the Fedor fans who are saying this. Obviously, the haters will be saying it no matter what and perspective will make no difference here.

Fedor shouldn't have been in that kind of trouble against Fabio.

Come on guys....

Let me bring you some perspective:

gspserra2.gif

GSP-Serra:
- GSP was at the height of his career
- GSP was in his athletic prime
- GSP had a huge size advantage (see image above)
- GSP got outstruck by a grappler
- GSP tapped to strikes

Fedor-Maldonado:
- Fedor was 39 years old
- Fedor was way past his athletic prime
- Fedor and Maldo were the same size
- Fedor got oustruck by a 22-0 pro boxer, but only for one round
- Fedor came back and won, with boxing

Embarrassment factor GSP-Serra:
9 out of 10

Embarassment factor Fedor-Maldonado:
4 out of 10

So why are you so embarrassed for Fedor?

I mean he still won (should of been a draw) but he looked sloppy and just brawled. World star hands

So why are you so embarrassed for Fedor?

I never saw GSP - Serra live and don't even remember the fight, I don't know anything about it really but I thought Serra was a huge underdog, but very respectable. This wasn't an isolated incident for Fedor, he's dropped multiple fights now, and he looked absolutely atrocious.

GSP came back but judging from the last fight, Fedor is COMPLETELY SHOT. How can he compete with anyone who trains at a decent camp? It doesn't seem possible.

Half of your post doesn't make any sense. Fedor engaged in a boxing match with a pro boxer. He said as much in the post-fight interview and clearly showed no intention of even attempting to take the fight to the ground. Serra was an undersized TUF winner known for his grappling. Maldo is a 22-0 pro boxer with 21 KOs. I think boxing with Maldo is A BIT more respectable. Not to mention Fedor came back and won. GSP tapped to strikes. Not to mention GSP was in his 20s. Fedor was at the cusp of 40. Do I have to spell it more out for you? If Fedor's performance was a disgrace, GSP's performance is completely off the charts and his legacy seems to be doing just fine in spite.

He engaged in a bar brawl with a boxer* and he seemed happy to not fight Jaideep at his strength...

I don't see Fedor redeeming himself like GSP did, he looks like he has nothing left. I don't know if it's a psychological thing when there's a cage around him and the dynamics of a different shaped ring, but he fights like a backyard brawler every time he steps into a cage. Literally winging punches over and over, getting tagged left right and center. I don't see him beating anyone in the UFC. He fought like the regional jobbers he trains with. Either that or it's the abysmal joke known as Russian training, because he abandoned Holland this time. Fedor's best camp he's ever been in was Russian Top Team, and even then, before Fedor came along, they had not even once beaten a Brazilian Top Team fighter.

I was more embarrassed about Fedor's approach to the fight. It just wasnt calculated at all. He didnt have to force things like that and punch Fabio in his arms 20x to understand that Fabio was just looking to counter.

When you fight a counter boxer who fights off his back leg, you kick the fucking shit out of his legs and threaten with takedowns to keep him honest. You break him down and then look for the kill.

Fedor did none of that and came in guns blazing in the first minute throwing those same lead hooks from way outside that were countered by Fujita, Bigfoot and now Fabio who really made Fedor pay.

I truly feel like Fabio is a guy Fedor can win a dominant decision over if he fights smart. But fighting smart is something that can deteriorate with age as well. Fedor is past it and done.

What we had before yesterday was a legend with a shot chin and fast hands. Now we have a legend with shot chin, fast hands and potential brain damage who lost his mental edge.

Please retire GOAT.

Repsac has been in full Fedor propagandist mode since the fight.

Let's get real for a minute:
-For some reason, Fedor abandoned what made him the best, his brilliant ground game, i.e, submissions and the world's greatest ground and pound. Now all he is a puncher with very little ground game and defense? I don't know WHY he did this. It's really disheartening to see. When he was prime Fedor, he could gnp anyone. That Fedor would have been HW champ in the UFC.
-now, everything is bad, he is getting older, slower and effectively NO ground game to speak of, sad to say but the days of Fedor are over. He needs to hang it up.
-this is coming from a Fedor fan for years. He still is and will be my favorite MMA fighter forever.

Ex-fucking-actly.

It's almost like watching mirror fights.

But Fedor's heart and survival instinct made all the difference.

How can you not respect coming back from that?
