UFC 132 - Chris Leben vs Wanderli Silva
This was a very anticipated fight at the time and a product of great match making. I will say that the fight never quite lived up to it's potential of a multi round war that people were hoping to see, but the outcome of a knockout was expected. It came a little earlier than anticipated but that's the way it goes when you have two guys who are coming out to exchange in the middle of the ring.
Leben was in a resurgence of sorts at this point of his career with a recent 3 fight win steak over Jay Silva, Aaron Simpson and an epic win over Akiyama. He unfortunately just got KO'd by Stann before this Wanderli fight, and was looking for a win to get back on track.
Wanderli was coming into this fight with Leben with a win over Bisping during his MW debut. Wanderli was in a recent skid leading up to this fight with losses from Cro Cop, Henderson, Franklin, Lidell and Rampage. His fans were excited about his recent success at MW over Ping. Both guys were coming into this fight with a unspoken gentlemens agreement that they were going to meet in the middle and throw down.
This fight was a quick affair, but it was exciting none the less. (I was going to write about the fight, but it actually fits into one gif, and fuck reading)
I would like to give a quick shout out to Josh Rosenthal, I think he too decided before the fight that someone would need to be almost dead for him to stop this fight. He made sure Wanderli was out cold before calling it.
There are two distinctive sides of emotions in regards to this fight but I do know that Lebens cult following was ecstatic. This was a big win for the Cat Smasher.
