Thoughts on moving/ living in Las Vegas?

Nothing screams sushi like the …. desert! They do have a PF Changs though.

There must be a legit amount of hot broke ass gambling addict chicks who will suck cock for cash. That's a good thing bro.

Trashy is a good way?

I love playng cards and heat and hope to semi retire around there

Too Disney for my taste. I hate Orlando too.

I've been thinking about making a move to Vegas since my job(s) and hobbies benefit from:
-Affordable enough for a place with home office+storage+garage
-Major airport with abundant flights nearby
-Preferential tax status on some items
-Cool outdoors stuff nearby and sunshine abundant
-Lots of sporting events
-Affordable enough that I can leave for extend periods of time to travel.

The things that terrify me about it (mainly based off stereotype):
-Heat being unhealthy/a pain in summer. I don't mind high dry 100* temps, but fearful of summer months so extreme that it's unsafe from a public perspective.
-Total reliance on cars / segmented into concrete corridors.
-Dumb drunk and old populations excessive?
-Healthy/safety. Shitty water, gnarly soil, lots of degenerates/sheisters/bums.
-Generally a "bad taste" town catering to Monster Energy bros and Live,Laugh,Love Karens who want fake roman columns on their houses?

Anyone hate or love the place after living there?
if you live in vegas, follow the money not the booze. employeers can see an alcoholic a mile away and they will always pic the other guy

I've only gone once but definitely got the feeling that I could live there. I don't really gamble and, since the whole thing is based on tourism, it seems like the kind of place with a good "local" vibe.

Dana White and Lorenzo live there - as well as lots of porn stars and UFC fighters.

There's gotta be something good about the place?

You couldn't pay me to live in Vegas. Outside of the strip, which locals avoid like the plague, the town is just subdivision after subdivision. One giant suburb surrounded by mountains.

And yeah, like you said, a lot of older expats that retire there because it's cheap to live there. But it's cheap because the job market sucks unless you work in gaming. Not that this matters to you since you work remotely.
Fuck, your av is distracting.

Did I already say that?

The Fertittas own the local casinos. And it's a vacation destination so that's good for the UFC.

Yup they sure do, and it would also be easy to go to all the big UFC PPV's, as they do most of them in Vegas. Vegas is fun, but not sure I could live there, its too hectic and busy and very over crowded, but its cool for a short vacation.

@Sir Galahad I've been to some UFC events in Vegas many years ago... these are my actual tickets from the events... UFC 49 and UFC 52 were both in Vegas, UFC 59 was Cali though. UFC 49 was EPIC.. great event, its the best UFC I ever been too. all the fights were great, prelims and main card

@Sir Galahad I've seen Nick Diaz very close up in person at UFC 49, he fought on that card and at the time UFC was not so popular so it was very easy to do the signings and meet & greet after the event.. and Nick is comically thin in real life, he is a very skinny guy... the TV Lies, in real he is very skinny. I chatted to the ref Big John after that event

I've been to Las Vegas many times to see the popular shows. Saw Chicago before the original members past away. They played my favorite tune 'Old Days'. @HI SCOTT NEWMAN

On NICE!!!! thats so awesome, they are great, I have never seen them live but I would have loved to see it.

I haven't been to Vegas for a while, I used to go more when I was younger. The kids said they want to go but for the moment they are a bit too young still so I feel like they won't enjoy it, there are better places to go for kids.

I want to go to a big UFC PPV in Vegas with you

Anyone here old enough to have gone to Vegas when the mob still officially controlled everything? I bet it was nicer.

TS kind of nailed most of this.

Pros:
- some of the best restaurants in the world
- sports and entertainment capital
- red rocks (hiking and rock climbing), lake Mead
- short drive to Utah/Zion, Grand Canyon
- major airport

Cons:
- absolute trashiest side of society
- magnet for fat fucks from around America
- insane heat in the summer
- every vice known to man is within reach

Drove through in 1989 (I think the mob was on their way out) on a cross country drive.

Very few things were better in the past --- including Las Vegas.

You could be right about that, but a couple mafia casino magnates and a literal human cockfighting promoter dont go a long way in convincing me.

Eh.

Only person I know from Vegas is a spoiled little hipster pushing thirty that thinks his shit taste in music and work as a line cook make him some sort of royalty.
