Thoughts on moving/ living in Las Vegas?

It's very hot in the summer. A lot of the suburban communities from southern California to Las Vegas to Arizona are familiar to one another.
Yeah I currently live in East LA so I'm used to fairly hot weather as-is, but pay about $1000 a month to live in a box, and that's a great deal for my neighborhood.
Would be giving up day-trip ocean access and being able to walk around to local shops and street tacos.

You couldn't pay me to live in Vegas. Outside of the strip, which locals avoid like the plague, the town is just subdivision after subdivision. One giant suburb surrounded by mountains.

And yeah, like you said, a lot of older expats that retire there because it's cheap to live there. But it's cheap because the job market sucks unless you work in gaming. Not that this matters to you since you work remotely.
Not to mention a bunch of crips and bloods have move there.

No thank you.

^ what he said.

Only area worth a shit is Summerlin next to Red Rock look to pay 2100 for a house up there.

Women are all taken or are strippers so bring a girl.

Lots of road rage everybody owns a gun.

Most guys are on steroids ^ doesn't help when added to above

Not a City for meeting people or socializing.

It's basically a giant retirement community.

No jobs or careers so you'll need to work remote.

Huge influx of Californians have driven house prices sky high.

Still cheaper than California by far.

Low quality of people overall TBH, lots of weirdos.

Weather is awesome.

Basically for a semi retired or retirement lifestyle.

The strip is boring just expensive alcohol, annoying solicitors and sparse crowds.

Great concerts at T Mobile.

Hockey tickets way over priced.

Traffic isn't too bad. Nothing compared to LA.

So ask yourself, do I want to live as a retiree? If yes then Vegas is good, if not live elsewhere.

I’ve lived in Vegas for most of my life. It’s cheaper than most places, so that’s nice, but there’s not much to do unless you like clubbing or casinos, and the crime rate isn’t great. Also, the summer can be a pain.

If you like the quiet suburban lifestyle, though, it’s not a bad place to live.

If you're not a homebody and travel a lot... have you considered just getting a roommate in a two bed to save some money?

$1000 in LA is good. It's hard to find anything here for less than $1500 for a one bed.

My mom moved us to Las Vegas because I kept getting in trouble in LA. When we moved to Vegas, I met up with the old homies I hadn't seen in years, their moms had the same idea. But Las Vegas is basically a satellite of LA.

They have excellent sushi buffets. @Clementine @HI SCOTT NEWMAN

Yup they sure do, and it would also be easy to go to all the big UFC PPV's, as they do most of them in Vegas. Vegas is fun, but not sure I could live there, its too hectic and busy and very over crowded, but its cool for a short vacation.

@Sir Galahad I've been to some UFC events in Vegas many years ago... these are my actual tickets from the events... UFC 49 and UFC 52 were both in Vegas, UFC 59 was Cali though. UFC 49 was EPIC.. great event, its the best UFC I ever been too. all the fights were great, prelims and main card

@Sir Galahad I've seen Nick Diaz very close up in person at UFC 49, he fought on that card and at the time UFC was not so popular so it was very easy to do the signings and meet & greet after the event.. and Nick is comically thin in real life, he is a very skinny guy... the TV Lies, in real he is very skinny. I chatted to the ref Big John after that event

I work from home when not on the road, so having multiple rooms would be preferred. Lots of places in the country to do this, just few that are relatively progressive, nice weather, and not humid/stormy.

I feel ya. That's why I got out of Chicago, I couldn't stand the awful weather there. Well that and miserable people and boring landscape.

How do you like living in LA? Obviously it's more expensive than Vegas, but if you can afford it I'd try to lock down a two bedroom condo somewhere in the area that it isn't ridiculously expensive. Those places still exist in San Diego County as well albeit limited in supply. Obviously it would be quite a bit more than $1000 but at least you'd be locked into the market and not have to move somewhere less desirable.

Everything outside of paradise / the strip is just depressing bland Suburbs. It's like never ending clay earth tones.

I like Reno - it's one of the fastest growing tech hubs dedicated to data analytics, AI and software development and it at least has some colour to it

My wife and I was just randomly looking at houses in Vegas on Redfin and started talking about it. Basically if you could transfer both our jobs to Vegas including the same pay we would consider doing it, especially given the fact that we would no longer pay state income tax. Would probably move to Henderson, Summerlin or any of the other nicer suburbs that has good school districts and away form the ghetto. Compared to California you get a lot more house and many come with 3 car garage, pool, jacuzzi and a decent lot size.

I had a family friend that lived out there and she was high up in a marketing office and offered me a job right out of college. I had only been there once for the typical gambling/strip club tourist weekend so I wanted to go there and get a real sense of it. So I went out there and brought my sister with me as a judge and my friend took us around for the weekend. Every person we came across whether it be a waiter, cashier, retail worker, literally anybody with a job we’d ask you like living here. Always got the same blank stare for a second then an exhale followed by a “yeah, it’s ok.”

Then we have dinner with would be my future boss and I ask him the same thing and he enjoyed it but then he stares off into the distance, a desert wind howls and he says “seems like everyone living here is running from something though.” That really clicked with me and at the moment I said this wasn’t for me.

Which is a shame cause looking back I should have tried it for a year or so. I was young, single, bright eyed and bushy tailed to the world. Could’ve had some fun adventures in the desert. If I could go back, I would do it. It was not to be though. Love to travel there and try to make it out at least once a year.

I grew up and have spent most of my life in Las vegas. Worst place ever. I hated it. No mental health support, everything is expensive, the most superficial trashy people ever, also the shadiest people ever, corrupt legal system, horrible to raise kids there, terrible school systems, sides of town that are all one race and if you're white on those sides of town it's bad, Las Vegas is so terrible in so many ways. I spent 15 years there total, and I hated every minute of it and was trying to get out all the time. Fuck Las Vegas.

I've lived all over the west coast, and other than Mormon cult run Utah, Las Vegas was the worst place I've been to. It's a shithole through and through.

Literally has pornstars cumming out of the sewers...

I've been thinking about making a move to Vegas since my job(s) and hobbies benefit from:
-Affordable enough for a place with home office+storage+garage
-Major airport with abundant flights nearby
-Preferential tax status on some items
-Cool outdoors stuff nearby and sunshine abundant
-Lots of sporting events
-Affordable enough that I can leave for extend periods of time to travel.

The things that terrify me about it (mainly based off stereotype):
-Heat being unhealthy/a pain in summer. I don't mind high dry 100* temps, but fearful of summer months so extreme that it's unsafe from a public perspective.
-Total reliance on cars / segmented into concrete corridors.
-Dumb drunk and old populations excessive?
-Healthy/safety. Shitty water, gnarly soil, lots of degenerates/sheisters/bums.
-Generally a "bad taste" town catering to Monster Energy bros and Live,Laugh,Love Karens who want fake roman columns on their houses?

Anyone hate or love the place after living there?
you will also deal with monsoon season, sand storms and cold.
