I am building a subscription instructional website which draws heavy influence in some contemporary educational theory. What I am trying has never been done and and has consumed me for a very long time. I wanted to show you some of the early work of the website as I consider F12 my forum home. Keep in mind, this is without a lot of the polish on the site.

Here is the dashboard design

dashboard.jpg

Features:
  • Visual dynamic mind map showing connected positions to your current area of study. Adapts and updates as you change positions and can be explored and manipulated as much as youd like.
  • Customized curriculum that can be centered on any move or position of BJJ. Everything can be made into a custom curriculum on the deep half guard sweep and crazy lapel, to introducing somebody new to the art. The curriculum is not static and unchanging (ie gracie university). It can be changed and molded as seen fit by the user and will accommodate it. Artificial intelligence algorithms are being run on the network of bjj to do this.
  • Long video option for people who like more detailed instruction or a short video option for ADD BJJ guys (90 seconds and under).
  • Mirror image video playback for seeing the technique on the "other side"
  • A complete rethink of how BJJ should be taught. Positions have concept videos which discuss only concepts and what the "battle" is in the position describing its general character, how favorable it is compared to other similar positions ect. Technique videos simply show the technique and do not duplicate the concepts found inherent in the position. Analysis videos dissect the associated technique in action and shares concept with videos show how the current technique is similar to others. Troubleshooting videos solve common problems that people have when trying to learn and apply the technique.

Here is a demonstration of features

I have gained much incite sharing this project with others. Feel free to ask questions or make a suggestion. I really want to set the bar with online BJJ instruction to a whole new level.

Nice. Making creating your own BJJ mind maps pretty simple.

Just curious, what educational theories did you draw from?

Dang, looks really unique!

Man, I'm excited for this. I've been a big fan of your videos since I started jiu-jitsu in 2010 and the work that you've done in analysis has been an inspiration for me in starting my own analytical work with grappling. Also, I'm a huge proponent of the way that your after-school program combines martial arts, music (which I've been involved with since I picked up the saxophone at 10 years old) and chess.

There are a few other programs (like the Hip-Hop Chess Federation) that seem to be operating on similar wavelengths to where you're coming from in a lot of ways, and I think that the potential for life changing character-building experiences for youth in programs like yours really can't be understated. I'm really excited to see this website take off.

Will you -

1) Make it possible to share taught techniques with class group/friends?
2) Embedding of video other than (but including) YouTube
3) Tags
4) Phone app
5) Cost

FWIW, I'm using Evernote to do the above; it does about 85% of what I'd like it too, which is great. BJJTraining Journal - which is your closest competitor - fails pretty badly in 1 & 2.

There's a market niche for this sort of thing IMHO

Ive never seen BJJTraining journal until you mentioned it. Its defiantly not a competitor as its a different class of product. I think you think this site is a training log type thing, but it provides actual instruction just as other online learning sites do.

On a related note, rest assured I will market JiuJitsu.net in nothing that resembles LI or gimmicks.

Looks awesome do you know when you want to have it out by?

Looks really awesome, man. Inspiring to see you dedicating so much time to a project like this.

So, you ARE BJJ Scout!

JK - looks very cool and I wish you all the success. I'll definitely check it out when you are ready to release it.

This, I think, is the biggest hole in BJJ learning at present. Ryan Hall is pretty much the only person filling that gap, even though understanding concepts and using critical thinking in relation to grappling can be tremendously helpful. It's the same principle as how knowing how multiplication works is much more important than just memorizing a multiplication table.

Interested to see what you come out with.

on a related note, does anyone remember that guy who posted a website on here that aggregated grappling videos from youtube and categorized them?
