    thats horrible.
you think that he actually remembers that hes a boxer when he shadowboxes, or its just his muscle memory telling him what to do?

Yeah, I first learned of his plight about 11-12 years ago. I was playing a game called The Boxing Game.. it's a nerdboxing game. Check it out. It's fun. But I met a Puerto Rican dude there and he told me all about Benitez..Very sad indeed. I really enjoy watching his videos though. The guy was a master of inches.. he knew just how far to move to make his opponent miss, and he knew how not to throw himself out of punching form in the process.. He would have made a brilliant coach. His knowledge and feel for the sweet science was something special.

Sad story. I'm not old enough to have appreciated his fights when they happened, but the videos I've seen of him were really impressive.

Main reason I don't get angry at boxers or GSP who "play it safe".

um.. Benitez is top ten best defensive fighters of all time.. Meanwhile Ray Mancini talks like a world class business man after leading with his face his whole career.

I don't think this was necessarily caused by the punishment he took in the ring. Can't be certain because one good hit to the head can potentially do you in, but I think that there were probably some underlying medical issues or bad habits that in the very least assisted in destroying this mans mind

Same shit happened to my grandfather who never took any punches or head trauma. Blaming combat sports without any evidence is what people who try to ban combat sports do.

Come, he clearly didn't mean that it was funny as in humourous............

Funny as in fishy ie that someone, somewhere is probably benefitting from the mans career.

This perplexed me too. Benitez didn't seem to take excessive damage in the ring and ended up this damaged. Perhaps it only takes one blow, even if it occured in a sparring session no one remembers.

    At any rate, very sad.

If you listen to Sea Pea talk these days, it is also apparent that his brain isn't functioning on all cylinders, but people don't factor in the fact that he has od'd many times and the effect those drugs had on him. Life style choices, though I do not know if Benitez had drug problems, can attribute to these type of things. So can any medical conditions that affect normal brain functioning.

Blaming boxing is just the easiest thing to do... yes it is possible that his disease was caused by his years in the ring, but it is also possible that it was caused by numerous other things.
