This is why physical copies are always superior than digital downloads

Thought this was about Real Dolls being better than internet porn.

Oh', it's the future alright, and it's even worse than simply downloading full games onto your hard drive. Just wait until streaming services for games becomes the norm. You won't own shit.
Yeah and in places with shit data caps it means no future in gaming.

How fucking often is shit getting stolen or damaged in your home???

I don't know about you or the first responder, but ive had my games functional and in tact since the Nintendo days.

I'm generally the same as you. The first CD I ever bought was Faith No More when I was 12, in 1997. I've still got it and listen to it in my car.

However, I've also got a horror story with physical discs.

I was a teenager (probably 14 or so) and was DYING to play a game called Messiah, where you play as a fallen angel who could possess people, on PC. However, my PC couldn't run it. I had to save up for months to upgrade it specifically for that game. I bought a copy in advance, and it sat there, for months, while I saved.

I finally upgraded my pc, got it all in working order and went to install Messiah. I reverently opened the box, pulled out the case, opened it up, pried the disc out of the case... And it snapped. The holder for the disc was too big and the disc got stuck and it snapped in half. I was fucking devastated. I just could not fucking believe it... Ended up burning a copy from a friend.

Incidentally the game still didn't run well in my system, but that's besides the point.

Obviously, this is not a common occurrence, but it would not happen with a digital copy.

I've also had DVDs, CDs etc scratched by shitty flatmates and friends etc.

That's my point. Physical is not without it's problems too.

Yep. They want a digital monopoly so they have more control over your content. Ban your psn/xbox(especially xbox lmao) account and your games are physical? No big deal. Your account gets banned for telling some squeaker to fuck off and all your games are digital? Lol fuck u scrub go make a new account and buy all new games, and trust me, theirs idiots that will do it.

Stories like this is the reason why I will never buy digital games in PS store.

This is the nightmare scenario of Uplay, Steam, PSN, Bethesda, Origin, etc accounts. You log in one day and your account is gone. Their support team claims you never had an account and what happens if these platforms crashes and gets wiped one day? You’ll never recover your account.

This is why I can't fuck with online-required games. I love going back and playing old games. But the way they release modern games now won't allow for that. Once those servers go down, and they will, you'll never be able to play that game anymore.

while i do get sucked in/suckered into buying games digitally once in a while...

i'd rather buy used games from ebay/craigslist/whatever, play them... and then be able to sell the ones i no longer want, usually for +/- what i paid. i've paid for a bunch of digital games that i regret/wish i could sell.

this factor, alone, makes me vastly prefer physical copies to downloads.

Give me digital or give me death.

Also, this guy's case is one in a million or more. A miniscule chance this happens to you and apparently it's being fixed for him? EA customer service does suck donkey dick.

Digital is useful for PC gaming, especially with the sales, but I try to stick with physical games for larger games on consoles (smaller digital games often don't have physical releases but especially with portable or semi-portable systems more so than static consoles it'd be ideal to not have to switch out cartridges or disks with those games given you'd have to carry them all with you wherever you go).
I think this is more so a problem with individual companies like EA, and this is not the first time I've heard of EA doing something like this. I haven't really heard of this happening with Steam or GOG or even UPlay (not sure about Battle.net, I'd think I would have remembered that given they host only a few games which have huge player-bases that spend thousands of hours on their games, Epic probably in the same boat).

I was the same as you OP. I never wanted to buy digital. I like the look of a physical library and had shitty internet so reinstalling most of the game off of a disc is faster. But games are becoming just way to expensive. 80 Canadian for a new game and seasons passes for 50 or single dlc packs for 15-20. No fucking way man. Also I upgraded my internet so now downloading is way faster.

My new method of buying games is just to wait a year for game after release for the GOTY editions which are like 30-40 bucks is the way to go. I only buy physical on Boxing day or Black Friday.

RDR2 is the only new physical game I am buying this year.

Also with game pass becoming more relevant I don't have to plop down 80 bucks to play Forza Horizon 4.
yeah I hardly buy any single player games now on release, I actually also wait for GOTY editions or buy 2nd had of online forums. Only thing I buy day 1 are online games like battlefield etc. I'm also now more into digital because they usually have more sales then physical discs which rot in brick and mortar stores here because they refuse to lower the prices even for 1-2 yr old titles.

Simple solution: Only buy on sale for stupid cheap, or play FTP games. I cant remember the last time I spent more than maybe 10 bucks on a game.

It's definitely more than a "one in a million" type incident. I generally don't like the idea that my paid recreational activities can be messed with by someone sitting in front of a PC a country away. Take into account when EA blocked the whole country of Miyanmar from accessing their legally owned games, because some maintenance guy wanted to make sure that they weren't breaking a trade embargo law that had already expired earlier:

In either case, I'd rather not let give anyone the opportunity to dictate how I am able to use anything I purchase, and with most of the digital services acting as their own DRM, it's way to easy for someone to muck it up for me.

Yea this stuff can happen. I almost filed for a refund in payment with

Yea I'm not to worried about it on PC. IF something like that happens to me I'll just pirate the game and tell the dev to fuck off. I'm not losing my games though.

At this point it also takes me less time to download a game, even a large one, than it would to drive to the store, get someone to open the display case, get rung up, and then drive home. The only exceptions to that are very large games like Doom/The Witcher 3/Gears of War 4. Those are rare though. Plus while I'm waiting to finish a download I can be doing anything around the house that needs to get done.
You mean jack off on porn hub

I did actually get some consoles and games stolen out of my apartment back in like 2006

wouldn’t be surprised if EA had some DLC to recover your account

I miss having physical copies going back to PC mainly for the fact that physical games hold value and can be sold if needed. I can't spell my digital steam copies it's just data. Plus I like the artwork and booklet all that stuff.

Angel Dust? If so that album easily still gets play to this day.
