Barboza lacked the composure to put him away, he swarmed him like a rookie and gave him an opportunity to grapple his way out on a almost certain TKO.
 
By the title I thought he was doing a kick while in zombie mode like Chris Leben throwing punches while zombie mode.

When you are getting ur head caved in n destroyed for 2.5 rounds ... its hard for someone to have composer when they get a hail mary opportunity that arrives out of nowhere.

Because he was rocked for about all of two seconds before shooting in for the takedown... A battered and woozy Barboza likely didn't have enough time to really process how hurt he was in the heat of the moment before Lee went for the TD.
 
That's now twice in a row that we see Barboza throw a hail mary spinning back kick as a last resort after getting mauled for 2 rounds.

But for someone who's such a specialized striker he sure seemed to lack experience for how to follow it up.

Yea good point. He def had a chance to finish that fight. Lee was as rocked as you can be without dropping.

Here's my take on the fight: Lee dominated 1 and 2 and it reminded me of the shevchenko cachoiera fight. I was literally logging in to sherdog to post this fight needed to be stopped, when barboza rocked lee with that spinning back kick. From there, lee still dominated but he was gassing and his wrestling wasn't as brutal as the first 2 rounds.

IDK how Edson survived that fight without getting ko'd or submitted. It's obvious his wrestling defense needs to improve. His bjj was just good enough to get out of countless bad situations. He definitely needs to work on his grappling and defense. Also, why did he not try for submissions? He was purely in survival mode on the ground. If he attacks more then maybe lee is less likely to take him down. Lee put constant pressure on him just like khabib did. If you stand and trade with edson you will lose.

Lastly, Edson has to be one of the toughest guys in the UFC. He won my support last night. The guy has a lot of heart. 2 fights in a row of taking brutal punishment. If I was him, I'd take a year and focus on my grappling. He's got championship potential with his striking and heart. He just has to sharpen his non-striking game.

edson just got his head smeared into the canvas for ten minutes, its amazing he could function on any level whatsoever, never mind throw a devastating spin kick
