I never fully appreciated when my folks taught me that pretty much no matter where you live, you can make it your home. Moving to a new state in high school made me skeptical of this, but I believe now that you can really find friends anywhere you go if you do it right.

    What say you?

-Your only as good as the company that you keep
-"Reading make it a man" - It's a quote from an old poem, but my parents use to tell it to my siblings and I all the time. It's meant to symbolize the importance of education.
-"One one dutty a build a damn" - An old colloquialism from the Caribbean that means every cent counts towards building your financial future.

Most things dealing with being fiscally conservative.

Preemptive "no thanks" on any and all quotes of this post.

"Eating healthy and excercise makes you think better"

Hated that quote so much when I was a teenager.

main thing that came to mind

"you'll understand when you grow up"
"you think you know everything now, but you don't know shit"
"you'll look back on this one day and realize i was right"

shit like that my dad used to say to me between the ages of about 16 and 20. I thought he was old and dumb. Now I realized how young and stupid I was at the time.

No Idea how to approach the instances that lead to my dad saying those things, with my kids once they are older. Certainly cant learn from how my Dad handled me, as I completely brushed him off.

So many times my life would have been easier had I accepted that I didnt know what i was doing, and listened to someone more experienced.

When I used to ask them why and they'd respond because I said so.

Now I have kids of my own I completely understand and agree with that statement. I use it all the time.

My parents didn't tell me shit. Literally, I can't even think of something stupid they told me about life.

My mother did tell me that if you're a fat kid, when you become a teenager you lose fat without exercising or eating healthy, lol.

The world doesn't owe you anything.

  17. No shit! Imagine how far ahead you'd be if it didn't take until 25 or so to pull your head outta your ass. I wonder where that youthful arrogance comes from. You haven't done shit and you haven't seen shit , so where in the fuck do we get off thinking we've got everything figured out at 19? Its makes zero sense yet its an almost universal phenomenon.

"Sometimes, the grass on the other side is greener because it was fertilized with bullshit"

"Son, don't get hypnotized by the pussy....... Nations have crumpled for one pussy......one"

Didn't listen to either piece of advice in the moment. I listen now.
