I just saw a thread that reminded me of Thiago Alves' supposed moved to 155 that he announced awhile back. It's fair to be critical of the move as Alves was once upon a time a fuckin' tank. An instagram picture was posted in another thread discussing 155 Alves and it seems he's slimmed down considerably and maybe there is hope yet that he can make 155. If he does indeed get a matchup at 155 who would you like to see him fight? Do you think he should get a top 10 fight right away? Top 15? What do you guys think? Here's the picture I mentioned of a slimmer Alves than we're used to seeing:

If they decide to give Alves someone in the top 10-15 range I'd love to see him fight Anthony Pettis or Gilbert Melendez for his first fight back from suspension. Iaquinta or Michael Johnson would be good fights as well. If they choose to give him someone outside of the top 15 I think fights with Abel Trujillo, Mairbek Taisumov or Ross Pearson would be good.

Who do you guys wanna see him fight?

Edson Barboza. Stand up battle, and a good test for Alves.

Hard to believe there was a time when he bad trouble making 170. Hope he makes the weight safely. I think Adriano Martins or Ross Pearson would be great fights.

Edson Barboza for a good ole' fashion kick off.

That's one neighborhood I wouldn't burglarize.

I thought about Edson Barboza as well but I don't think he'll get something that stiff for his debut in a new weight class, especially after that brutal loss to Condit. I like Barboza vs. Chiesa, winner of that would be 1 away from a title fight.

Assuming he makes weight properly....they are countless great fights available for him...i like the Trujillo and Pearson fights, he should not fight a top guy next. A fight vs Dariush makes sense too.

I like that fight vs Melendez too Ridge now that I think of it.

Yeah... you'll be back up to 170 within 2 fights.

Tiago vs ligaments in either knee would be nice.. Would love to see if he could be competitive after the layoff .. He was fun to watch

Barboza could already be a fight away from the title shot if you think about it. Alvarez got it with a far less convincing win over the same guy. Alvarez has two UFC wins, both by SD.

Ferguson is hurt. Cowboy is at 170 and just fought for the title. Nate Diaz isn't interested. There is Khabib, but no one wants Khabib to get a TS after beating the new guy.

Realistically, Barboza could matched with Khabib and the winner would get a TS. Its irony but he lost to Ferguson and got a more high profile fight and won it.

Yeah it would be a good one, both guys have been out for a minute, especially Melendez and it seems winnable for either guy. I'd predict a war.

Weird considering how big he looked vs Hughes. For his first fight at 155 i say give him someone in the top 10 - 15. Give him a challenge, but don't throw him in the deep end right off the bat.

I will always remember Alves as the guy who had decent muay Thai striking, who suddenly became...

And was the biggest sonofabitch GSP ever fought...

And is now going to be a Lightweight.

Slimmer but not shredded. Interesting.
