There's only one fighter like Cerrone

Where dem flames at?
You weren't the first, so it's all blown over already. :)

And Diaz whooped Cerrone, still he doesn't care.
Cerrone went 13-3 since their fight 3 years ago. Diaz went 4-3, still begging for a title shot.

My first thought lol.

Begging for what?

Nate bout to make more money in 1 fight than Donald probably made his whole career, Nate stay winning.

You're right, he changed his tone after the Conor fight. But you can't deny he was always calling for a title shot before? And in any cause, this isn't a thread about Diaz. unless he also start's fighting 3-4 times a year.

It's not like Cerrone is getting peanuts either. In his last 2 fights, he earned $462.000 with win/show/bonus/reebok money. Not too shabby since were only halfway the year. And he already got another fight lined up next month.

I do hope he gets a new contract soon. He has now 82.000 show money. But he's been around for a long time now, he's a fan favorite, never pulls out any fights and always ready to step in on short notice.

Yeah I don't really know why but for some reason I don't like Magny that much. What he's done is very impressive offcourse, going 10-1 in just over 2 years and a half. And he's constantly improving. But he has no personality and I just don't like his fighting style.

Thanks!
I have enjoyed watching him slowly become a well rounded fighter, and with him starting to finish more guys, I can't complain. I think most people tend to remember his TUF days and haven't let his TUF performances slide. They still hold it against him.

Yeah he has been very lucky with injuries. Wish there were many others fighters like him who are not always getting injured so we can see them fight more often

Exactly. The guy actually lacks heart. He is a subservient person in general. That is what is being celebrated here. Being a company man.
Lol, were do you get this? And because his I'll fight any one, any where, any time he's good for the company. What's wrong with that? More fighters should be like that. Let me guess, you're one of those guys that cries out 'shiiiillll, he's a ZUFA zombie!!!' from the moment someone agrees with something the UFC does?

Yep, I don't recall a fight were he pulled out of. That doesn't mean he never fought with an injury. It's crazy with the amount of times he fights and all the other extreme stuff he does outside the octagon he isn't injured all the time.

I feel ya here. I'm way too old of a fan to buy into any personality schtick that is intended for the male 18-35 demographic where it belongs. I am a fan of most all combat sports, and as such do appreciate striking quite a lot! With that said my favorite aspect of MMA is the grappling.

I do hold frequency of competition in the absolute highest regard, just like you.

With all of that said, there is no excuse that Neil is not among my favorite fighters in the UFC. I can't put my finger on why he has not made the impression on me that his action in the Octagon earned, but truth be told I cannot honestly call myself a fan of Magney?

I can say the 100% opposite though. I was high as a kite on Cain Velasquez, but after holding up the HW division with his intolerable inactivity, he is 100% my least favorite fighter in the UFC! As much disdain as I have for Travis in his shamefully dirty fight against Mitrione, I will still be rooting for the miracle double KO!

One of the reasons I think is because he doesn't go through these crazy long camp, these long camps just get you injured and weak, they don't work. its much better to have a short camp I think. most of the short camp fighters win these days anyway. if you are doing a 12 week intense camp the chances or you getting injured is extremely high, its not smart imo.

lots of people would die to have the schedule cerrone does - people dont realize that the ufc holds folks back from doing that - nelson just talked about it, for example - you are just way off - fighters want to fight

I can think of another one.

Yea Holloway is nuts. That guy is the future of 145. Since losing to McGregor he has gone 9-0. He already has had 15 UFC fights, going 12-3, and he's only 24 years old, keeping in mind that the most wins in the UFC for a career is 19 held by Bisping and GSP. Holloway's first UFC fight was in 2012 so he has basically fought 15 times in 4 years. That's almost 4 times a year. Cowboy has fought a little more than 4 times a year, 21 times since 2011, we'll just call it 21 times in 5 years. The main difference here though is that Cowboy is 33 years old, Max is only 24.

He fights a lot because he's exciting and the UFC allows him. Many fighters would love to but don't get the call.

Yes exactly, I have no reason not to be a fan of him. He's active, he's a very good fighter, he has some finishes, he has heart but I don't know, I'm always rooting against him when he fights don't know why.

True, I read this morning an interview on mmajunkie with Joaquim Silva who fights at the TUF finale, where in he says he believes 3 month camps will happen less and less and fighters need to stay in shape all year round.

And also recently someone made a thread over here putting the long camp vs short notice fighters next to each other, and fighters who fought on short notice won more.

I read what Nelson said. He's a bit unlucky to be in such a shallow division. And perhaps a lot more fighters want a Cerrone-schedule. But then they need to go for it. It's not like there hasn't been any injuries this last couple of years. If it was a LW or WW Cerrone always went on twitter or whatever, probably calling Dana saying his ready to step in, doesn't really care who the opponent is, low or high ranked (although he probably won't put his hat in the mix anymore for some guy who's debuting). I believe a lot more fighters can fight 3 - 4 times a year, but you gotta be willing and also go for high risk/low reward fights.

i think what you're trying to say is that you need fighters to be stupid - works for fans, so what do we care? they make more than waiters so why are they complaining, right?
