This is fighting,You are throwing punches to hurt and KO your opponent. When the timing is right,it becomes a KO. What is this " he got caught" BS. Its called he got BEAT.

Thank you for tuning in to 5th dimension MMA.

Getting beat examples: BJ Penn vs Joe Stevenson

Getting caught examples: Mcgregor vs Aldo

Why not? It's part of the game
It doesn't imply luck, it implies that the fight might have been different.... but you got caught

Eh thats just one sided beating. Conor VS aldo:aldo just came launching like he never does and ate the perfect counter.

People make it sound like its luck. Example JJ vs DC 2 fight.

'Getting caught' is a term used in instances where talent levels, and/or the fight itself, are close/competitive enough that 1 mistake(that would likely otherwise not have a significant impact on the result) can/will/does end the fight.

Just because people use it incorrectly all the time, doesn't mean there aren't situations where it is applicable.

Agreed. This is fighting, the objective is to "catch" your opponent.

INB4 I was winning the bar fight until I got caught by an overhand right and was KO'd

This guy nailed it.

Forcing your opponent to make a mistake and capitalizing on that mistake is what the term means.
Unlike in other fights where you dominate them from bell to bell.

If your point is it's not a matter of luck, I agree.
I think what people mean is one fighter didn't have a clearly superior performance over the other except for that moment.
I don't think that takes anything away from a victory though. It just means things could go different.

It the interpretation that is wrong.

To me, "getting caught" means, "getting beat" so I have no problem with people saying they just got caught.

It's like, shit, I just got caught, I need to do better next time, but the better man won. No big deal.

Champions find a way to win that is beyond my understanding.

Getting caught = when someone lands a hit on you.

Plain and simple. "Simple" being the key word.

Or even when talent levels and/or the fight itself are not close but rather lopsided in favour of the loser.

It means different things to different people, with varying degrees of correctness for each interpretation.

To me, "getting caught" implies that they fight was overturned in a single striking sequence, or that it was roughly a 50/50 fight before the sequence.

A fighter on the verge of winning 30-27 getting hit with a KO punch in the last minute = getting caught.

Conor on Aldo does not equal getting caught. To me anyway.

YMMV

This. Mma is a game of inches. One mistake is all it takes. A momentary lapse in concentration and you're waking up to medics and arena lights in your face.

These guys train the same punch/kick 1,000's of times. To insinuate it landing and putting someone else away is luck...well that's just ignorant. "Got caught" is fine. It's "got lucky" or "lucky shot" that I have a problem with.
