I know they're different sports and one beats the other in they're own sport, I get it.

However, I still think there are a handful of decent boxers in mma who could/could of had a go in boxing and made some decent money on the side and been semi successful.

Of course I'm not talking about the Maia's of the world or the Khabib's. I'm also not talking about guys like Whittaker, Volk or Cejudo who have a ton of tools in their game and need to hone a plethora of skills constantly in the gym.

But someone like Rose for instance, or a Petr Yan IMO could/could of very well give boxing a go at some point, maybe an undercard fight here and there and strung together a few wins. Nothing crazy, no world titles, but a little bit of bragging rights and a little paycheck on the side.

I mean , fuck, if Greg Hardy jumped into MMA a couple years ago and just went the distance with a top 5 HW, I don't think my theory is TOO absurd.

    What say you?

That experiment was at the absolute highest level.
A couple notches lower and I think we'd be in for some pleasant surprises.

Tim Hague died in a boxing ring last year.

    It's not a good idea.

Why would they want to be an undercard boxer? Have you seen the pay for undercard boxers?

It's only fun when it's a big fight. I don't see the need to watch mid tier dudes/women dudes bouncing back and forth between the two sports.

Some of them have. It gives them experience boxing for MMA. For example, Cerrone has 1 boxing fight.

I knew a guy that was ranked 25th in boxing at light middleweight around ten years ago, with 13 (7 KOs) - 3, the losses coming from three funny decisions. The guy lived paycheck to paycheck. None but etiher superhard boxing nerds or local folk knew he even existed.

That pleasant surprises you talking about surely won't be financial ones.

The only big paydays in boxing are at the very top of the card. That's not where an MMA fighter shoudl look to compete.

A few of the girls would do well but there's no money in it for them - that's why the movement is all the other way. And yes the worst guy in the UFC is getting $23.5k to fight, what would he get in boxing, $500?

Well, KJ Noons was pretty blunt about being more willing to box 6 rounders every other month for maybe $5-10k each instead of 2-3 MMA fights a year for maybe $20k each.

But he was considered a pretty decent pure boxer for MMA standards, and he never got past the 6 rounder stage. How good would a guy have to be to actually make a run in boxing?

So outside a "celebrity" level boxing match (MayMac, Fury v Stipe, or Masvidal v Canelo), I don't see very many MMA players actually earning a living at boxing.

Well let's look at a few boxing cards and you tell me where you think the lowest paid prelim MMA fighter would fit into it.

    Here's a Showtime card

    And here's a PPV
