I think you missed the word "experienced", it's not confined to any age group, and hasn't changed with the introduction of millenial to the workforce.

young people are more preoccupied with how they will be perceived by their peers, than they are in finding stable employment. many young people would rather work at some hipster coffee shop making peanuts than they would being a plumber and making three times as much. it's sad, and it's true.

Making college free doesn't mean more colleges would pop up, or that colleges would lessen their entrance requirements. If anything, entrance requirements would be tougher because more people would be applying for the same number of spots.
Interestingly, if you think free college = no manual laborers, then you probably work a manual job yourself so you don't need to worry about your profession going extinct.
