Television THE WHEEL OF TIME (Cancelled by Prime Video After Three Seasons, post #448)

Where are they going to find a 6'6" guy with red hair.....that can act?

Oddly enough, I think Wot might be better if it was an animated series, if done well.

I always thought it was odd to have tall skinny white red heads living in the middle of the desert. Now that I think about it, aside from the Sea Folk, there wasn't much racial diversity in WOT.

This series was a simmering bucket of puke.

Possibly the worst writing I have ever read.

Blows my mind that it has fans.

shit.. i read this when i was in high school.. i stopped reading after book # 8 since it took forever for his next books to come out

At least we can see some of this much-maligned braid tugging, skirt smoothing, and arms-folding-under-breasts. And the sweat tents. Hopefully Aviendha is hot.
Joking aside, a lot of the exposition will be visual, so the level of detail won't be so tedious. For example, instead of 2 pages describing the dragons and gold sewn into Rand's coat, we'll just see Rand's coat.

More proof that moron TV execs know nothing but to copy the current biggest thing (and they aren't even the first, see that pile of shit Shannara series). Wheel of Time is so fucking boring and cliche.

It's sad since there are so many innovative great fantasy books out there that would translate perfectly to film, yet they will be ignored...

THE WHEEL OF TIME Live-Action Television Series in the Works

The Song of Ice and Fire series from GRRM currently sits atop the world of science fiction fantasy literature. But before the book series received a boost from the critically acclaimed HBO adaptation, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series was its chief rival.

Fantasy enthusiasts around the globe hotly debated which author's life work was the better fictional work. But that was many years ago and Game of Thrones has gone on to unprecedented success in both literature and television. Well, it looks as if the rivalry might be getting renewed in a whole new medium according to the latest update from Jordan's widow, and editor Harriet McDougal.

" Wanted to share with you exciting news about The Wheel of Time. Legal issues have been resolved. The Wheel of Time will become a cutting edge TV series! I couldn’t be more pleased. Look for the official announcement coming soon from a major studio —Harriet."

Last year, Red Eagle Entertainment tried to hang on to TV rights to the Wheel of Time series by airing a hastily thrown together pilot/TV movie (that starred Billy Zane), titled Winter's Dragon that aired on FXX at 1:30 AM. However, it looks as if the rights have reverted or a settlement has been reached. Last July, it was rumored that Harriet was meeting with Sony to work out the finer points of a TV deal.

I made it to the eleventh of these before I lost the thread. It could be good if they had a GoT budget and writers who can separate tye wheat from the chaff, but with the author dead I'm not expecting much more than a cash in.

No shit. I don't care about the wardrobe and decor. Get on with the story!!! If they came out with an edited version that cut down on all that bs, this series would be at least a thousand pages shorter, way less tedious, and would flow much better.

Having said that, I still love this series, and think Sanderson did a great job wrapping it up. He might get another chance with GOT if Martin doesn't cut back on the cheeseburgers. Maybe I'll start ordering that man pizzas every day.

The borderlanders were Japanese, taraboners were chinese, the empress of the seanchan was black. There was a ton of racial diversity.

Never read the series but it seems like it would be tough to make into a show, kinda like Malazan. The most realistic option for a fantasy series they could turn into a show or movie right now is the Kingkiller Chronicles.
This is in the works as well btw. Just extremely early stages.

This would be *far* harder to adapt than Game of Thrones. You either tremendously skimp on effects or you have a sky-high budget, and you'll have to cut out tremendous amounts of material. This series would have to be rewritten in a profound way to get it all to fit. I've thought about it, but I just don't see this working out well. Guess I'll cross my fingers and hope I'm proven wrong.

On a side note, I quite prefer Jordan's work to Martin's. It just won't be as easy to adapt to a television format.

Actually, the Seanchan were all sorts of races. They were an empire which had a whole host of cultures under its flag and, while Tuon was black, many of her subordinates and other members of the blood were all sorts of colors. Most of the WoT groups don't *quite* match real world groups, they just blend real world characteristics in nonsensical ways. The only ones that were pretty good fits were the Andorans (English) and the Borderlands (Japanese). Taraboners as Chinese? Never saw it. Some of them have blonde hair with most of them having dark, they are a coastal trade based civilization with olive oil being one of their main exports, and their women dress all skimpy and they export olive oil - never struck me as Chinese so much as Italian. Their whole way of acting doesn't really fit Chinese culture either. The only things that really said Chinese to me was the illuminators guild.

This all being said, whoever thinks there isn't much racial diversity in WoT is off their rocker.

I suspect they'll just go the way of Shannara Chronicles with this, sadly. Alannon, the nearly 7 foot tall stick thin druid character is played by Manu Bennett. I love Manu Bennett, but let that sink in and ask "Why didn't they just get Stephen Amell to play Wil Ohmsford while they're at it?" Oye... I was hoping I would never hear this was happening - it's just too fantastic to make it work. Part of why GoT works is because it's mostly low fantasy and they only need Braveheart level tech for 90% of it. Wheel of Time though? It'll be a CGI fest every second episode, and *way* too much of the books is spent on metaphysical BS like weaving the one power and whatnot. That stuff just doesn't translate well into live action. White Tower scenes are either going to be soft core porn or incredibly lame. Even more of the central cast is teenaged in this, to boot. That's never good.

There food was Chinese. They used chopsticks. A little flimsy but I'll take it.

Let's not forget about all the spanking. The White Tower is basically a lesbian bdsm dungeon.
