    Learned the "Clint Choke."

Had a pretty decent night. Had an all out war with my buddy who is really good and we ended up calling it a draw. Won another hard fought match against an explosive wrestler type.
I won matches with kimura from north/south, armbar from mount, rear naked choke, clint choke, and toe fold. I lost matches by Peruvian Necktie twice to the same guy... and of course, the draw.

Learned two different half guard sweeps. Mostly from deep half. Can't wait to try it out. Also, rolled three times with the same guy. He handed me my ass each time. Stupid gi.

    1.5 hours of nogi.

We learned a counter to the upa/bridge mount escape that results in shoulder choking the guy on bottom. Pretty sweet. Also, learned a mount escape (limp leg out).
I went 2 and 1 in my matches. I lost by Peruvian to a guy I always seem to lose to, and I won by Kimura from half guard, and Fat Boy Choke.

    2 hours of tournament preparation.
Did the "Shark Tank" and helped four other people in their "Shark Tank."
Rolled with quite a few people independently of that for five minute rounds.
Had a great day. I felt on point with most of my submissions and positioning.

We learned two variations of the hook sweep per Pedro Sauer's list. After doing some positional sparring, I did a shark tank with five people for one minute rounds. It was grueling! Three of the five people weighed 265, 340, and 365 and all started in side control. Fun day!

Today, my workout calmed some serious anger I was dealing with. Heavy weights are good for that. My memory is a bit hazy, but here's what I remember.

    Squat 6X5 with 135, 185, 225, 255, 275, and 275
    Bench 4X8 with 225 (3) and 135
    Lat Pull 4X8 with 225
    Calf Raise 2X10 with 90
Hammer Strength Lat 3x5 with 135 per arm
    Dips 3X12 with bodyweight
    DB Curls 2X10 with 35's

Brutal day. We worked on positioning most of the night. The tempo our instructor had us working at was fierce, and left me completely drained. Good night, and good preparation for the tournament.

Now I just need to cut a few pounds...

I weighed in at 204, so I ran a 5K. Slow but steady pace. Came in around 29 minutes.
I've cut my calories back a little, so hopefully it'll be enough to get me to 199 Saturday morning.

Good day of training. My instructor told me I need to work on my halfguard, especially concerning escaping the position. My training partners all helped me drill this. I was planning on going light since I compete Saturday, but I ended up having some pretty lively sparring matched.

    UPDATE
I got 2nd in the Utah Champion Submission Challenge XV. Felt good about it. Won two matches by submission (armlock then shoulder choke), then lost by toe fold in the final.

This week is active rest. Next week I'm going to start in on trying to put some strength back on my frame.

1 hour. We drilled the Fireman's Carry Takedown all day. I must have put in 100 reps. I feel really confident with it now. I like the setup that starts with me overhooking one of my opponent's arms, then wizzering hard to get him to step with his outside foot. The takedown commences from there.
Also, if the opponent sprawls, we learned the knee tap.

2 hours of rolling in The Lair in 10 degree temperatures. We started out gi, and went to nogi after a while. It was so cold! I was wearing two pairs of socks, compression shorts, fight shorts, gi pants, long sleeve rash guard, hoodie (with the hood up), and gi top.

    Fun day!
