    14-2

Fought in the UFC from his third professional fight onward

    2x HW champ

Avenged his first loss twice a la GSP. But unlike GSP's, Cain's first loss was flukey.

Big Nog, Brock, JDS x 2, Bigfoot x 2, Rothwell, Browne, etc.

He would have beaten Werdum next week

Had he not been injured so many times, it's fair to say he would have a record of 20+ wins at this point.

Had he beaten Stipe, he would have been a 3 time HW champ. If he subsequently defended the title two more times, he would break the HW defense record. Four more times to break the HW consecutive defense record.

    It's s shame.

EDIT: If long layoffs/injury-prone Cain achieved so much imagine what a healthy Cain could have achieved? Or are we to believe that a healthy Cain would have done worse than a non-healthy Cain?

He was never going to be the GOAT, his striking defense is complete dogshit. He stood with Kongo for 7 seconds in a 15 minute fight and almost died 3 times. He matches up well against JDS who has a non-existent clinch game and still got flatlined by him. He also got hurt by him multiple times in the next 2 fights. He fought Werdum who is a nightmare matchup for him stylistically and got absolutely destroyed.

Cain's "prime" was basically him fighting the same 2 guys over and over and over, and beating up on Brock Lesnar. Similarly to the Werdum fight, he gets annihilated by a prime Nogueira btw. One of the most overrated fighters on Sherdog.

Lots of if's and hypotheticals in there - If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.

Moral of the story - Credit given accordingly as per wins/performances/longievity. Anything else would be disingenuous.

I like how Cain gets a free pass on the allegations like that a lot of the time, as well as a free pass when he makes shitty excuses for getting the shit kicked out of him.

I'm sure at Sea Level he wouldn't have stood right in front of Werdum and gotten destroyed in the standup, taken him down at will and definitely wouldn't get subbed by him

"got hurt multiple times". slight exaggeration

against werdum he barely spent time in mexico so his cardio was horrible. still won the first round

tell me someone right now with a straight face aside maybe miocic, who's a tough fight for him? he would run through that horrible division like it was nothing if he were healthy

And why would he beat Werdum lol. Werdum has and will always have Cains number. Werdum beats him in every area, or nullifies Cains wrestling, and Cain won't knock him out. Werdum is higher on the goat scale

I think he should probably just retire at this point. His body just can't hold up. He'll be in a wheel chair at 40 if this keeps up.

That's such a stupid excuse considering the amount of time he was built up as being a Mexican. And it's been awhile but I coulda sworn that Werdum was winning all the rounds up until the finish

i can't see how anyone can hate on cain based on his fighting ability. he avenged his first loss twice, and never got a chance to avenge his second loss. the only thing you can say about him is that he wasn't durable. i think he will come back. and i think he will still be very good. though i don't think he will ever become a champion. for some reason, i think getting older, wear-and-tear, and emerging fighters will keep him from getting the belt again. i do agree that it's a shame. so much potential thrown down the drain.

Possibly. His biggest weapons were just his insane output with cardio and aggression which yes Im sure predominantly resulted from his insane training. He was never successful because he was a technical wizard or super multidimensionally athletic. It was mostly just extreme grit and cardio. So yeah it made him as successful as he was but also destroyed him.

He's a good fighter, maybe great. When he's able to fight.

But don't even begin to compare him to GSP.

GSP defended the hell out of his title. GSP fought a lot. He spent a huge amount of time in the Octagon.

Cain... hell, just constant issues.... Which is too bad. I think on a good day he could beat any UFC heavyweight, of any era.

Cain accumulated a 14-2 record in between all his long injury layoffs. I doubt a healthier less injury prone Cain would have done worse.
